January 2025.
I have just finished watching this, new to Netflix.
It totally knocked me off my feet and had this 59 year old man, openly weeping at its end.
A most tragic, deeply sad and poignant look at the horrors of war, juxtaposed with the pure simplicity of finding a once-in-a-lifetime love.
But it was the words of Jack Firebrace at its conclusion, that did for me, when he talks about his son and what it is 'to love, and to be loved'.
My own son was so late to me (4 years ago) that Jack's words were as if I'd written them. ❤

One quick question. WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE BLONDES?! Oh, I'll name you the blondes that always marries or has a love affair with the hot dude: Cosset (Les Mis), Fleur (Harry Potter), The one in the musical Wicked (Can't remember the name), Hannah Bagshawe (Eddie Redmayne's wife), Marylin Monroe, Isabelle (Birdsong), there's a lot I could go on for days.

Who finds Eddie Redmayne hot?

Why do we now need to entwine love with war..i mean back in the day there were war movies...not antiwar or prowar..why does every war movie need either a love story or an antiwar overtune

And yet you can't download it anywhere which I find quite strange??

Another bloody love story. When are the British going to make a decent war film. Later all the war films to come out of the UK have turned out to be love stories. The days of the war classics of British cinema with such moves as A Bridge to Far and the Dambusters are sadly long and truly over.

I watched this at the weekend as I was in Italy and they had some DVDs already there for us to watch this was one of them! I started watching it thinking it was a movie but then found out it was actually at 2 part drama on bbc! It annoyed me so much because this programme would have been perfect if it was a film so worthy of more success and it would have made it into the top films of all time if it was! The acting and emotion the story everything in it was just astounding

@jakeolive6903

Joseph Mawle was the best in this series

I've just finished watching it, and it was absolutely incredible. The acting was incredible at time's they wouldn't even say anything but it'd say so much. Eddie was absolutely brilliant! Story line was great! I do think that she should have told him...its because she didn't tell him that made for such a great story.

War is extremely cruel....At least I have never had to fight a war....

@M1kelCccHello

The actors were so good. There would be scenes where no one would even say anything but you can see it all in their eyes. Very emotional. Eddie was excellent.

I cried and at the end I just felt all hollow and empty, after watching the character's journeys.

Not triangle love, something like forbiden love, drama, romantic and war. Watch it, it's really great!

@Lorelai271
@

What is this? A love triangle drama with a married woman? Or a war movie?
I really this kind of production, of historical drama, never the less I really cant stand soap opera, never the less that the British always do better than the U. S.

@TheKeyser94
