Biggest Unanswered Questions In Blade Runner 2049

Video Overview & Insights

Fans of the original Blade Runner know that the film asks a lot of questions but doesn’t answer many of them. Fans have debated for years if Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard is a replicant or not, and they should have known that Blade Runner 2049 wasn’t going to confirm or deny anything. The film teased the question again without offering an answer, and it also posed plenty of new questions for fans to chew on. From whether K actually died to the truth about Ana’s memories, let’s take a look at the biggest unanswered questions in Blade Runner 2049.

What other unanswered questions do you have left after the ending of Blade Runner 2049?

In 2048: nowhere to run its explained how k gets information about sapper morton when he gets in a fight and drops some papers with the information about his location and a citizen reports them to the police

Uhm is Wallace a replicant? My first blade runner movie as an adult was 2049 lol

@naimahq8739

None of these are mysteries. Joe is dead, just like the other guy you are referring to. They showed both dieing. Decker's daughter put the memories there herself.She even said so when she says that artis leave a bit of themselves in their art. In her case she leaves her actual memories in every one of her made memories. Why so in the instance that one of the replicants will be in the position to find her dad.

So 2049, its currently 2023. In 26 years from now we will have flying cars and AI replicants that we cannot detect are just that and not human. Really? It should have been called Blade Runner 2149.

K is Deckard son, they were twins.

Joi brought Mariette to K because K bought an emanator for their anniversary.

Joi listened in on K's exchanges. Joi said: You liked her, I could tell.

So will there be a child from K an Mariette?

Unfortunately. The more installments, the more likely franchise becomes horrible.

Hope not. Peace

I WISH I CAN GO BACK TO 2017 AND WATCH IT IN THEATERS UGHHH

At the beginning of the move K would never have won that fight if he had been a real human boy. that should have been an indication for him, and the viewers

Ridley Scott made it clear that he likes Deckard to be a replicant and clearly pushed his film into this direction (the unicorn, Deckard’s glowing retinas). However, Philip K. Dick’s book doesn’t contain that notion and for me, the story simply makes more sense if Deckard is human.
Isn’t Roy’s death scene all about a replicant showing more compassion and humanity than the human who is chasing him? What’s left of this powerful idea (that is so important for both movies) if it were just two “robots” fighting it out? And on a more practical level, why is Deckard getting almost killed by every Nexus 6 he is facing? Wouldn’t they have deployed a replicant blade runner who is fit for the task?
So, while I fully respect Scott’s artistic freedom (in recognition of the masterpiece he created), in my universe (and Harrison Ford’s, for that matter) Deckard is human.

It would be cool if in a 3rd movie K is being stored the the brake away replicants saved him but could not turn him on he is in a replicant coma he is awoken 40 years later and a replicant vs humans civil war is tipping to the replicant as rulers and some humans side with replicants and some replicants side with humans

Who told K about Sapper? Watch the short films.

Why didn't they just use androids, well it's likely they did use androids at first but found that they were too easily hacked and it endangered the world so they opted for replicants instead.
AIs were limited to holograms or entertainment in holorooms in order to prevent them from escaping and causing another AI war.

And today Rachel died giving birth to Ana!

Deckard is a Replicant, K is alive!

Deckard is a replicant. ALL blade runners are replicants.

@peoplez129
@

the biggest mystery is Was K the twin of this miracle birth and a part of the plan for hiding both genders was to not let K know the truth he is a natrual birth to protect his cover identity and ensure his baseline testing wouldn't cause him to be discovered..... Twins... piece of the puzzle. they never told him he wasnt but they did make him believe wasn't. Crazy Twist.

Wallace is Tyrell, Deckard is a replicant.

To Looper: The 2 factions are not exactly the way you stated. One is indeed Niander Wallace fighting to find the child find the secret to child creation and use. The 2nd is not the rebel underground the 2nd is K and the blade runner police. These 2 are both fighting to find the child and use what they find in the wrong way. K choose to then do the 3rd option and the right one which is the give the child back to her father deckard. So you see the 2 factions going head to head the most in the movie are the blade runner and commander vs niander wallace. The underground people/rebellion were a more peaceful 3rd party from that which we saw anyway

@CrashIntrinsic

hope they make BR 2079

Do you really think k would be allowed to die, laying out the front of a UPGRADE FACILITY as madam says after he's arrested that they found him there where he returns with Deckard to introduce him to his daughter, but also asked what am i to you clearly stating Deckard thinks that k thought he was his dad, would you let someome who thought you were his father and also saved your life die?

Even with all of the looming questions, it was one of the greatest movies ever.

I saw the original in 1982 . 15 years later after seeing it 2 -3 dozen times , I finally noticed Deckards copper/red eyes in the kitchenette scene with Rachel (who had copper/red eyes ) and realized he was a replicant . What a revelation ! That's why his story started with him ( just activated ) reading a newspaper on a bench . He was programmed to be weary of killing replicants and reluctant to continue (easier to control) . The whole premise of BR2049 was an even bigger mind boggle .

@misterglennhood5938
@

Yes Deckard is a replicant there are so many obvious hints

@jd5726
@

someone explain to my why ana is making memories for replicants, technically she is working for wallace corp. if the rebels safely stored her away how is she directly working for wallace? this shit has been confusing me someone plz help lol

@coach3155
@

Hell. In the best of all cinematic worlds the seqel will feature the replicant rebellion AND the success of revolutionary procreating replicants. But wait.....they do not join forces to overthrow their overlords but bez the fertile ones have been programmed to be undetectable by any human or test AND to intermix with HUMANS ....a new species is born . And then wiped out by the common cold.....or something. Call me, Ridley and we can talk.

@ikeeptime
@

Not sure that they even had a full story in first and second one.

@italk2alex
@

Does Stelline know who she is? I suppose she must do if she deliberately created the horse memory in the hope that one replicant would pick up the trail one day.

@BristolF
@

Many questions, especially: how did he find out that Ana is real child, and who gave him horse

@msjadhav5192
@

Is Mariette pregnant? And if so is it her child or Joi’s?

@thefalcon217
@

The real question is, does it really have to be in 2079 if they ever have to have a sequel? Could they actually film regardless what year it is for the sequel?

@timysantos3741

Deckard isnt a replicant! Old models wouldnt live that long

@freebee8221

What happen to Wallace?

@pablopina8924

I doubt they have answers to any of this stuff. Just lazy writing.

@holden6104

Lol guys. Joi loves K and that makes her more human than Wallace which is one of the main themes of the movie: humanity.

@A1egz
@

I loved Luv,s character.. she was a total bitch

@Ravedaze.
@

Deckard is not a replicant, we got that shit covered

@TheMustangForce
@

The real question is
How long must we wait for the next film in this cinematic masterpiece
Seriously
3 years should be enough

@bigtravis6159
@

The first thing that the film explains about nexus 9 models, like K, is that they are fully obedient, unlike nexus 8's who rebelled. As such, 9's are used to hunt down 8's. However, K appears different. Even before hints that he may be Deckard's son were given, he has shown signs of disobedience, doubts and even guilt. He hesitates when he is ordered to kill a human, he lies about the full extent of his memories, and subtlety disobeys orders. He also shares memories of Deckard's child even though he is not an 8. What if the daugher was a false flag? What if K really is the son of a replicant, or replicants, if Deckard turns out to be one? What if Deckard really had twins, and was merely told that the other died? Whatever the case, K is special as Joi tells him, and the film has no concrete explanation why that is.

@d.maxwell8669
@

Deckard is indeed a Replicant, of the more advanced “secret class” Nexus-VII Series

@TrainmasterCurt

Joi 😍😍😍

@BoundInChains

What's with all the children in the orfanage? Are they humans? Is there any humans at all in the movie?

@InteractiveIdea
@

One question: What happened to Wallace after K killed Luv?

@danielwilliamson6180
@

Its pretty clear that K dies. He stops moving and the song that plays as he lies down is a version of "tears In rain" which was played when Roy died in the original. I don't get how people are unclear about this?
