BEST Way to Organize Gmail Inbox

Video Overview & Insights

In this step-by-step overview, learn how to organize your email and get to inbox zero in Gmail from an ex-Google employee. With this system you’ll never miss a follow-up, and you’ll be able to track responses.

Archived emails exit your inbox and go to the “All Mail” section of Gmail. These emails also appear in their corresponding label section if you have added them to any. Any archived email will return to the inbox if the email thread receives a new response.

Hi, I cam e across your video and it was most interesting and practical. I have though a question if you are putting labels in [] to make sure they stay at the top of the list. Why do we need multiple mailboxes if I can see the labels at the top easily.

In gmail can I setup in a way that if a particular email comes to my gmail account, it goes under specific label instead of inbox. There are some repetitive emails that I don’t need to see in my inbox, which can stay inside a label and pileup there

I am soooo glad I don't have a zillion emails that I would need to creat "labels". I tried that years ago & then remembered the K.I.S.S. method. I eliminated all the labels & went through each email & dealt with it. I am old & retired & don't want my family to have to deal with any of that stuff when I'm gone. 😎

In the default view of Gmail though, I don't see any of the promotions emails in my main inbox - all goes to the promotions tab. However after I tried the multiple inboxes trick, all the promotions are landing in my primary inbox. How do I stop this?

How is everyone else dealing with this? I don't understand - seems more chaotic to me to do it this way. Have added a label for promotions but doesn't stop them entering main inbox.

This video is exactly why I ended up automating my Gmail instead of trying to manage it manually.
I run a small script daily that labels old read emails, archives them, and deletes clutter automatically. Total game changer.

Why doesnt gmail let you just move stuff to the spam folder? Because gmail is a spamming machine. It would defeat its own purpose for being it it wasnt spamming you with as much junk as it possibly can. The same with the apple phone mail app. It makes just deleting an email a chore by design and does not even access your spam folder at all. This is insane.!

The labels I made and added on the right of the inbox do not work?

When I add the label to my emails, they work specifically as when I’m looking at my labels and clicking into them on the left hand side where it says labels.

But having added ones onto the right to view certain ones with easier access. They do not show there???

Anyone else having this issue?
Any solutions?

Also thank you for the video Kevin, very helpful!

What if you don't want to put all of the emails to the archive (some may become irrelevant in the future) but more into a categorie and then a general label like work or personal...? Do you have a way to do that?

@judithvanloock9307
@

does not move them to the labeled section. Yahoo is much more user friendly in this manner. In Yahoo, you can search an email, it will show you all emails by that sender. You can click all and MOVE from inbox to the folder (or as in Google, label) with one click. Does NOT archive it (save it in a second place) and does not require each individual email to be opened and moved.

This is the golden ticket! I have absolutely not been using my archive correctly and the "inbox" label was bothering me bc even when items are moved they still have the INBOX label and are subject to delete.
