Best Places to Retire in the Philippines: Retirement Destinations for Expats & Filipinos 🇵🇭 | Salee

Video Overview & Insights

Are you considering retirement in the Philippines? Whether you're an expat looking for an affordable tropical paradise or a Filipino returning home for peaceful living, this video reveals the top places to retire in the Philippines! From stunning beach towns to vibrant cities, the Philippines offers retirees a wide variety of choices for a comfortable, relaxing, and affordable lifestyle.

where do you think is the best places to retire in the Philippines?

— @salee_talks

We’ll explore the best retirement destinations, including:

Dumaguete City - The “City of Gentle People” with a perfect blend of expat communities, healthcare, and a low cost of living.

I want to retire in Philippines and I do not have any hobbies. I like to go to a different restaurants once a week but also I think I would like to have a few fruit trees and a small garden maybe even a few chickens, so not in the city but close to a city or a town. Where is that place?

— @yuliyanti9283

Cebu - A bustling urban center with a mix of modern amenities and island life.

Tagaytay - Cool climate, beautiful scenery, and proximity to Manila.

I have been to Tagaytay and that photo is NOT Taygaytay. How can anyone trust this video.

— @RedneckNFilipina

Baguio City - Known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines, perfect for those who enjoy cooler weather.

Iloilo City - A developing urban area with historical charm and growing expat community.

We retired in IMus, Cavite. The area where my wife was born in and grew up. Her home was an old single floor Filipino Home with rusty pipes, no ac and other issues.
We torn the old house down, had our 3-Story Dream Home built in 2012, 5br 5ba, 3M pesos. Can't do that today. In 2022, we added 2 rooms and a new 2nd floor 24 x 10ft long Terrace. $10K
So to answer the Question. Our home is the best place for us to retire. We live in a Barangay, no expats, mingled with locals, they all know us and we attend events throughout the year with them and their families.

— @alaskacpu

We’ll also cover important topics like cost of living, healthcare access, and the lifestyle benefits of retiring in these beautiful Filipino locations.

If I have a choice then I’d go south like in Davao. Safest place, only city with a free 911.Island access to Samal in minutes. Not as modern like Manila but all the amenities you need from malls, parks, hospitals with one of the cleanest market and affordable cost of living. Unfortunately I’m stuck in Canada sincd my kids are here to stay lol.

The most corrupt country in the ASEAN. As long as you can live with corruption in all levels of the government, BI, Custom, BIR, LGUs, police, lawyers, prosecutors, judges, justices, then welcome to the Philuppines.

If your children are not planning to go back and stay in the Philippines, do not buy any property when you retire in the Philippines. Just rent a house, lease a 4-door vehicle and a big touring bike to go island hopping. My wife and I have invested so much in the PI. I have fruit & veggie farms, fish farms, residential and commercial properties before I got married. My wife and I added more properties. Managing these properties is a headache no retiree wants to deal with. Never buy a condo. Sell all your properties and live the rest of your life hopping from one island to the next. When you’re done hopping in the Philippines, go to another country.
If you’re planning to stay more than 2 weeks in one spot, these are important things to consider: 1. How corrupt are the local officials/police/army 2. drug problem/crime rate 3. road conditions and proximity to regional and international airports 4. average traffic condition if you plan to live in a metropolis 5.proximity to hospitals, medical equipment/procedure and doctors you personally need 6. how diverse the supply of food is at the local fish port, public market and restos
If you plan to leave something to your kids, give them your 401k, 403b and other investments, including your old house, in the US. If you worked hard and smart in the US for more than 30 years, your combined private and social security pensions should be way more than enough to live a life of luxury in more than 90% of the countries in the world. Safe travels and absolutely have FUN!

I plan to retire soon to Camarines Sur. We have built a beach house overlooking across the bay to Mount Mayon and we have a large coconut plantation to redevelop on the mountain behind the village. Naga and Legaspi airports and Caramoan NP are just 35 minutes away.

Lipa Batangas should be included. 1.5 hours from Manila easy drive, all highway. 300 meters above sea level so fantastic weather. All the modern amenities like malls, restaurants, three golf courses, hospitals, etc. super underrated retirement spot.

Tagaytay is great but the places just outside, like Silang, Mendez, Amadeo, Indang and Alfonso are also cool and much cheaper with less traffic. These places already have a lot of amenities.

We drove to Tagaytay in Feb of 2024. We were not prepared for the coolness of the night air. We should have taken some light jackets.. But we did love spending Valentine's weekend down there.

Thanks for the video but what's up w/ the photos not matching what you say? Dolomites as Taal volcano, "friendly" people being white, Palawan some random big house somewhere - at least match what you say with what you put up.

I have lived in Dumaguete for the past two years and I certainly would not put this in my top 10. Guys if you retire to PH you need to consider being somewhat close to great hospitals and thats very difficult but possible.

Thanks for the video. Great memories visiting the P.I in the 1980's.. I can only give you a sailor's review. Fine little chicks that could suck a golf ball through a garden hose. LBFMs. Once we pulled into Subic Bay with two carrier battle groups and the Filipinas still outnumbered us sailors five to one. Best party pussy in the world. I need to go back there and dip my wick again. Thanks.

As a American, I was stationed at the old Clark Air Base (Angeles City) Philippines back in 1991 at age (28). Now age (62) and retired. I am a widower. My children are grown now with children. I plan to return and retire in CEBU City or Makati areas. Best thing is hospitals 🏥. Thank you for this information.

Philippines, holiday, yes. Retire, no
After a time, you will be used as a ATM, also see the hassle with all the officials. Corruption like hell.
Food ? Depends where you are. In province, forget the food. Not to use.
No culture,

Stop encouraging foreigners to retire in the Philippines. We are already overpopulated and we don’t need more aliens coming here to settle. The government should prioritize the welfare of Filipinos first and foremost, not the whims and caprices of foreigners!

When I retire and return home to Philippines, my home base will be in Luzon and then weekend get-away to the beaches or resorts of the Visayas. I'm undecided where in Luzon as I'm considering Batangas, Bataan, or Bulacan. All B's lol Anyone with feedback is welcome. Thanks inn advance
