If you want to save money on gas, then one of the best ways to do so is with credit cards, choosing the right one that gives you at least 3% cash back or 3X points on your purchases.
Here are a few of the cards weβll talk aboutβ¦
I'm looking for a card to use just for fuel purchases. If I understand correctly out of the cards you featured the AMEX blue Cash Everyday card is the only one that offers a dedicated 3% cash back on fuel purchases all year long?
The Citi Custom Cash gives you 5% cash back / 5X Citi ThankYou points on your Top Eligible Spend Category on up to $500 spent each billing cycle. One of those eligible categories is Gas Stations, making this a fantastic credit card with no annual fee.
The Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi now earns 5% cash back at Costco Gas Stations and 4% at other gas stations, up to a combined $7,000 spend per year. It has other useful reward categories, no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and a handful of insurance protections.
Mark, Today I applied for, and was approved for, a AAA Travel Signature card specifically for the 5% cash back on gas. Both my wife and I will be getting cards on the shared account. Given the annual fee of $0, this one seems to be a no brainer. Thanks!
The Amex Business Gold Card earns 4X Membership Rewards points on your Top 2 Eligible Categories each billing cycle on up to $150,000 total spend per year. One of those eligible categories includes U.S. Gas Stations. Plus, the card usually offers a huge welcome offer of 100,000 points or more after meeting the spend requirement!
The Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card earns 3% cash back at U.S. Gas Stations on up to $6,000 of spend per year. It has no annual fee and includes a couple other really useful 3% reward categories.
Very helpful!
The U.S. Bank Altitude Connect Visa Signature Card got an update not long ago. For your gas purchases, youβll earn 4X points at Gas Stations & EV Charging Stations on your first $1,000 spent per quarter.

5:47 - As of September, 2025, a telephone representative for Comenity Bank / Bread Financial advised that I could only hold one or the other of these AAA cards. She mentioned that I might be able to do a product change, but she would not accept an application for a second AAA credit card, which would feature the other cashback categories.

My card spending in 2024 is $40K, with the top categories listed below. I'm thinking of doing the following setups to maximize rewards (card name in brackets)
Utilities $8.5K (Citi Custom 5x pts highest spend category, so only use it for paying utilities = $325 cash back? Calculated as 5x on the first $6K + 1x on $2.5K).
Costco Gas $1.2K (Citi Costco Anywhere 5x pts)
Gas non Costco $3K (Citi Costco Anywhere 4x pts)
Food & Drink/Restaurant $4.2K (Citi Costco Anywhere 3x pts)
Travel $2.5K (Citi Costco Anywhere 3x pts)
Costco $2K (Citi Costco Anywhere 2x pts)
Everything else $18,600 (Citi Double Cash 2x pts on everything)
All together, on $40K spending, these cards will give me $1,106 cash back???
Can you double check my sanity? Seems too good to be true!

Hi Mark. What is the best gas card for me with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees ??
I currently have strata premier that gives me 3% back on gas but with an annual fee of $95 and 3% back on restaurants but I already get that 3% on restaurants with my chase credit cards and have 1.5 on my us bank shoppers card on all purchases. What is your advice ?

Great roundup! Gas is such a consistent expense, having the right card can make a real impact over time. Helpful breakdown for choosing between points and cashback based on lifestyle.

Gas card I use - Citi SYW (it ranges from 10-15%)
π¬ CHAPTERS
00:00 - Intro
I use the US Bank altitude connect from my gas card, thanks for showing it some love, most YouTubers don't mention it.
1:16 - Wyndham Rewards Earner Business
2:24 - Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus
Currently getting 10-15% with SYW (no annual fee) - yes I realize this is not consistent every year, but the promotions are based on your spend, so if you value the low threshold, keep your spend low. Cap is $10k per year
2:58 - Wyndham Rewards Earner
3:24 - Citi Custom Cash
Wyndham actually operates decent properties where other brands have kinda meh ones.
4:26 - Costco Anywhere Visa
5:08 - Samβs Club Mastercard
Lot of good ones. Still missed a few that are active or granfathered in 2025. Examples include ducks unlimited card 5%, usaa savers card 5%, PayPal 5%, Boa should explain the bonus on top of the 3%, Verizon card 4%.
3% cards are old news as you can get 4% or better these days and I would not include the 3% unless there is a bonus to get more like boa.
5:36 - AAA Travel Advantage | AAA Daily Advantage
6:13 - Amex Business Gold Card
Hi Mark
I had two smaller loans I was paying on for 2 years , the first loan was $ 5500 the second $ 3k I managed to get them loans down to nearly 6k together over two years, then I had my way to pay them off in full this March 2025 , I asked the lady at the loan office , if it would hurt my credit if I closed that one wells fargo card that I got , she said I wouldn't just don't use it because bank credit cards won't close out if your not using it , she said if you close that card , I will appear to be a risk , so I decided to use it very little and minimal, so I don't use it very often, and I have almost everything paid , and I just seen some of my credit score on credit karma I was 815 , im much more relaxed with owing hardly nothing, it feels great , I learned to be in more control
9:28 - U.S. Bank Altitude Connect
10:18 - U.S. Bank Business Altitude Connect
1:03 how can we tell? I use mainly Costco and Sams club so Iβm guessing thatβs out. I canβt think of any standalone Los Angeles station that doesnβt sell something inside. I think there is, but Iβm not sure.
10:51 - Citi Strata Premier
11:37 - Venmo Credit Card
Awesome. π―πππ
12:08 - PNC Cash Rewards Visa
12:48 - TD Cash Credit Card
Honorable Mention - PayPal Debit (5% upto 1k /mo) if gas is selected for the month. Also niche USAA Amex (5% gas upto 3k annually).
13:33 - Amex Blue Cash Everyday
14:18 - Amex Blue Cash Preferred
So Iβm guessing gas stations lile Sheetz and Get go in the NE part of the US wouldnβt be included because these are more of a convenience store rather than something like an Exxon or a BP?
15:03 - Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards
15:54 - Bank of America Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards
You mention that the Strata Premier has a 75k intro bonus offer. Is that still active? Im only seeing 60k

MARRIOTT Business card gets 4x points on US gas stations and is currently my go-to for gas, my wife has the Costco card and she uses that for gas at Costco only

Man Chase needs to up their gas station game
@GolfexpertbelievemeI like my Wyndham card. Too bad Caesarβs doesnβt status match with Wyndham but still a good gas card.
@couz96797Good video,I think the IHG premier is worth mentioning.
@phoenixfats1190Another somewhat obscure option if you're a Verizon customer - the Verizon Visa gets you 4% back on gas, restaurants & groceries that can be put towards your Verizon bill, and has a $150 signup bonus.
@SteveOlsenGreat info
@rambosidi7634Who really spends 7k on gas though unless you travel a lot? Iβm a team hybrid guy because I barely travel or to never but I treat my point cards like cash back rewards but for better value.
@BluperSaiyanI have the no fee Wyndham earner, blue cash every day, 2 Citi custom cashes, Venmo Visa. So I have a few options for gas.
@Th33Vultur3Even at most convenience stores, as long as your card is swiped at the pump, it usually registers as a gas purchase. Buccee's not included.
@mrlevhilWhy no mention of the Wells Fargo Autograph card? 3X back on gas.
@1bridge11Iβm not kidding I just saw 90k reward on personal Wyndham earner plus after 2k spend.
@joeysok2366Excellent review! Thanks. A couple of comments. About the PNC Cash Rewards Visa card and the cards offered by Bank of America, I believe a checking account is needed at these respective banks before you can open a credit card account. This has been a no go for me because their checking accounts are not interesting. I am on Team Cash Back, except for my Wyndham Earner Visa card with no annual fee for 5% points on gas and Wyndham Hotel stays. My wife and I use this particular hotel chain often while on US domestic trips so it has paid off in free hotel nights over the years. Lastly, at the beginning of the video, you cover the story about "merchants that do not use the gas station merchant code category code". Good point, but we have been receiving 5% in points when using our Wyndham Earner Visa card for gas at Costco, which is the cheapest gas in our town. I'm guessing the Costco gas stations have a separate merchant code than their warehouses.
@georgemoore7196Thanks! π
@caribdude81514:07 *per month
@MrTopnotch2Great information Mark!
@LouThaEnergyI use the Alaska Airlines card for gas. Itβs the primary earning category for the card at 2x alongside transit. Not flashy, but Alaska Airlines points are worth a TON and hard to get anywhere! First $6000 goes toward a companion pass as well. Once they open up their international routes later this year, these points are going to have crazy value.
@MyNameJimA credit card I use as my gas only card is the PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa because unlimited 5X points as long as you pay at the pump or mobile app of the gas station.
@devonmaska6149Iβd also add the Amex blue cash every day as it also has 3% for gas
@naveenthemachineBesides gas would be cool for it to include tolls, towing, auto insurance and auto maintenance in the 5%. Something that could be as a personal auto card but also for a trucking business.
@shawnm2405Good info. Heads up that Wyndham 8x one is a business card? Missed the *. There are a lot of cards so very understandable if missed.
@mrbear0007Also surprised the WF Autograph not making this video. Good single card setup.
3X Dining, Travel, Gas, Streaming Services. no FTF, no AF, no caps, redeem Travel Points or CB.
