Berlin Film Festival: Row over the role of politics in global cinema
Video Overview & Insights
At the Berlin Film Festival, jury president Wim Wenders’ remark that film-making is “the opposite of politics” has drawn criticism, with over 90 signatories urging the Berlinale to denounce alleged Israeli genocide and war crimes against Palestinians.
Dear Wim, Nick, Thom,..one all-inclusive week in Gaza Resort can do much more for understanding world we live in than 5o years of making movies, music and studying books. Simple.

Wender is talking simple nonsense, probably because he fears to loose financiers. Film industry is highly dependent on Jewish financiers and unfortunately only very few of them criticize Israel's war-crimes/genocide in Gaza.

talking about gaza is work of people not work of politicians
@SaraanSarangiThe thumbnail is CINEMA POLITICS
Art without politics is just decoration.
@consumedmindArt is inherently political, and cinema is art.
Never forget.
F Berlin & Germany generally 🤷♂️🤦🏼♂️
@anonymousanonymous1997Politics have always been in cinema. Take Battleship Potemkin, 1925.
@rossclark1363What delusion 😢
@privacymia64Germans being genocide deniers...once again.
@FM-ln2sbWashed out director licking boots? Nothing surprising, then...
@JDPhyxNo. You have a responsibility as both a citizen and as an artist. So many cowards.
@hayleymathiesonIt is indeed easier to sign a paper, Juliet Binoche, than to go to Gaza. That is, because the Zionists don't allow anyone to enter Gaza, as you might know. You don't open the minds and hearts of people, but you consider them to be dumb as sheep.
@HaltdenKopfhochWerner Herzog is an experienced filmmaker and story teller. I think he's been misunderstood. In my opinion he is talking about political propaganda that needs to be avoided. I'm sure a bunch of punitive people won't try to engage in dialog over this opinion but if you are tempted to down vote or engage violently with insults than you yourself have been a victim of propaganda, have a habit of ego based dysregulation or need to try and force others to follow the crowd when someone has a different opinion than you.
@puggirl415It is one thing to criticise someone for their unreasonable or ill-informed opinions about politics. But, to criticise them for talking about politics in general?
Why? Why do people insist politics is something that lives in a vacuum?
Something about Germans staying out of Politics sounds kind of ignorant to their own history to be honest.
I mean ignoring the past, well..........
Yeah, make movies with political hints at what is good & bad, nothing went wrong with that
@awolpeace1781They want Independent film to STFU and toe the elite's line like Hollywood learned to do
@Spoderman-kiwicanuckWonder on another payroll
@LdnLadyWender acting like a coward. Cowardly shameful.
@cuadernonaranjoSo disappointed in Wim Wenders… how can such a brilliant visionary not see end even ignore human suffering. Just bought tickets to a festival in celebration of his 80th birthday in Frankfurt. Can’t even refund them 😪
@kizuna2002Trump is Satan's spawn
@georgescott6829The dude thinks "End Genocide" is a political opinion! What a moron! How long ago did he sell his soul!?!
@DarkPescogod he sounds like he has dementia
@edevine9177What a loser
@StateOfPurgatoryA film festival has nothing to do with Gaza.
@sayjustwordstomeIncredibly stupid of Wim Wenders.
@olgazadig4961It's not about politics in general but Palestine. It's the famous "progressive except Palestine" or the "Palestine exception". These intellectual circles do this all the time, they only get behind uncontroversial causes that don't need their help. My love for cinema and literature took a severe hit these past few years. It all feels shallow, empty, ridiculous.
@JDshaoBerlin. Germany did NOT learn from history, or did it? 😢
