Beekeeping | 7 Fun Honey Bee Facts That You May Not Know
Video Overview & Insights
Beekeeping plays a huge roll in pollinating our food. If bees were eliminated from the planet would people perish in 4 years?? There are many misconceptions about honey bees, like if eating bananas will cause more bees to sting you. Or when a bee stings you they mark you with an alarm pheromone that draws more bees to sting you. Does the queen bee control how the colony behaves? Do bees feed small hive beetles? Can a dead honey bee still sting you?
Always interesting videos and subjects.

Scoop up dead bees in front of your hives and see what happens! LOL They do sting until the sac completely dries up. And yes I smike the site of the sting once stinger is removed to block the pheromones.

If people had enough brains, and energy, they can actually pollinate their food with a small paint brush. Of course it's a lot of work, and the bees make it easier, but it can be done.

What Do You Know: https://amzn.to/3EV0Klb
I need to highlight that the bulk of the worlds food supply comes from grasses. Wheat, corn, rice, oats and pulses such as chickpea, faba/broad bean and field pea none of which are pollinated by honey bees.
Many of our everyday domestic vegetables do not require pollination to provide a food sources either. eg Potato, carrots, beets, beans, peas, silverbeet/chard, zucchini, broccoli, asparagus. Most of the fruit and vegetable that do need pollinating can be pollinated by native or solitary bees or other pollinators such as butterflys, beetles, wasps, flys and yes even mosquitos (male mosquitos do not drink blood and are nectar feeders.)

It's not the honey bees in danger David, it's the native bees. We need to do our research on this.

🌻FEED YOUR HONEY BEES:
Lol dead bees can sting. Once I was driving with the window open and a bee splattered into the window frame. The stinger shot out like a dart and stuck in my ear.... I'm almost positive I'm the only person on the planet to be hit by a bee stinger like a blow dart lol 🤦 worst luck ever
Plan ahead for spring. Feed your bees in the spring by using my Feeding board known as the Burns Bees Feeder. Safely feed your bees from the top. Great way to help you build up your bees of winter physiology. Check it out:

Love the video, I have a question over the top of the conversation that you guys are having does a queen get stressed out if there’s too much room in the hive thank you, Charlie PA
@charliegioe3158I experienced the banana alarm pheromone one time, after moving a colony. Had girls chase me to my car and inside. Wasn’t a smooth process needless to say. The Queen myth, learned that a while ago. Good stuff.
@CastleHivesHave to wipe out the solitary bee also. Mason bees are better pollinators for many crops. Leaf cutters take over in the summer months.
@SMButlerwhat happened to the nuc giveaway 😟
@victorkulynycz1397Another very informative video. Thanks, Sherri and David.
@diannemiller4754NOT COFFEE!! I'll be down in South America hand pollinating with q-tip!
@lisaschwenning2801I learned a lot from this, thank you! Congratulations winner! 🐝🐝
