This film pieces together the Sunday in November 1984 when artists
including Tony Hadley, Paul Young, George Michael, Bono, Phil Collins, Sting
The Poor Paula😞
and Boy George gave up their one day off to record a song they hadn’t
written, with lyrics they hadn’t seen and a backing track they hadn’t heard.
What a treat getting to see this again. George Michael: shy, unassuming and already possessed of staggering vocal talent-check out the way he suggests some absolutely sublime tweaks to the melody. Boy George- possibly the single most assured presence in the room- mildly flirting with both the camera and and even Bob! And delightful how he interacts with Sting and Trudie's baby ( Jake?) And Midge Ure- really he clearly was the main producer/wrangler of the massed pop stars that day-incredibly calm under what must have been IMMENSE pressure. A 24 hr deadline to record mix and get it off to the pressing plant? Honorable mention to everyone-especially Paul Young-who seems remarkably unassuming and carries that opening melody line with that voice... I found this tinged with great sadness that of course we have lost George-and Paula too-who wa utterly charming as she chatted with everyone . Also Phil Collins-providing that absolutely powerhouse groove-there's been so much attention paid to his physical challenges over the last decade so it is wonderful to be reminded of his humor and unassuming virtuosity ....Bravo Sir Bob and to Everyone. You ROCK.

BAND AID - How the Money is Spent
In the financial year to 30 November 2024 Band Aid has awarded grants of £3m across 16 projects to date.
Activities in 2024 include:
Provision of life saving medicines and medical supplies
God almighty not one but two
Access to basic healthcare for rural communities
Strengthening the support of health services in Tigray
One singer one song an old Glasgow saying and geldof is raging 😂😂
Therapeutic food for malnourished children and vulnerable adults
Emergency grain supplies
None of the singers on the recording ended up on the record, which is a shame because an instrumental acapella isn''t exactly a fish in the tree.
Drought resistant crops
Income generating activities and vocational training
Construction of basic housing to support old and vulnerable people
Construction of emergency shelters for refugees
Provision of clean water and sanitation training across multiple refugee camps in Ethiopia
Training to prevent gender-based violence in communities
Phil Collins being the true unsung hero on drums
Hygiene and sanitation support for adolescent girls
Construction of schools and libraries, and provision of classroom furniture
This was a joke compared with USA for Africa but since they were pioneers Brits and Irish it counts even more.
Cash distributions for vulnerable households
Rehabilitation of boreholes and wells for schools and communities

School feeding programmes in Tigray to support children returning to education
The estimated number of beneficiaries totals more than 350,000 people.

@EgamingRTBoth 1984 and 1989 versions were great. I don't care what anyone says. The versions of 2004 and 2014 just can't be compared with the first two from the 1980s.
