Australian teaching standards at risk as school results over last decade decline

Video Overview & Insights

Sky News host Caleb Bond details how Australian teaching standards are at risk, as school results over the last decade have steadily declined.

Need more men in teaching.

— @JonnyRingo313

“Something that we should not get over … is the quality of our teachers,” Mr Bond said.

“You look at NAPLAN results, and other school results over the last decade at least, and it will show that we are on the decline, we are being beaten in so many categories.”

Education today is indoctrination its been this way for 20 years, Reading, writing and Arithmetic was thrown out the window when Rudd said no child will be left behind ..computers have a place in education, but are not the be all and end all, children who are gifted and are quick learners are held back because of age, and children who need extra help don't recieve it.

I’ve just given my notice after teaching in a private school for 15 years. I am tired of feeling frustrated and disheartened every day.

Teachers have to deal with a lot of BS that they shouldn't have to.

3:00 50 ATAR score does not mean 50% of the cohort. ATAR score has nothing to do with percentage of the cohort.
You could get 100% of students get above 80 ATAR and zero get 50 ATAR, or any other number.

Been attacked by liberals since the 60’s. Results are really starting to show now. Get rid of the woke in education. Bring back special schools to get rid of the kids who drag the rest of the class down. Proper funding for all schools. Proper wages for teachers.

We need to give teachers a significant pay rise and we should also teach financial literacy and make sure students enter adulthood properly educated in one of life’s most important areas so they can avoid learning some of these lessons the hard way

Proper English education, punctuation, comprehension and use of proper dictionaries was removed from school in 1966.

Good teachers are leaving their profession due to ridiculous expectations by the education department... all the paperwork, keeping teachers tied up in 'red tape' gobbledegook rather than their primary role, which is to be with their class of students, actually teaching their students... then you have students with a variable degree of needs... it is a potential minefield navigating a classroom. It is not just down to the Teacher's specific Atar qualification... there is a complex situation going on, in any given class, on any given day... and, yes, our teachers are under-resourced, and under-paid for the long hours and expectations that are put on them. Most parents and the community have absolutely no idea what good teachers have to deal with, any given day.
My thoughts and opinion based on observations and personal experiences.

That is because teachers are too busy taking kids to mosques and tranny parades... rather than WHAT THE KIDS NEED TO KNOW! Teachers FUCKING OVER THE KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE.

Maybe the activist teacher keep their personal views to themselves and stop indoctrinating our kids. I remember growing up they had teachers colleges, same as training as a nurse at the hospital, but it’s all about monetising education and not quality of people coming though and now it’s just quantity.

This takes me back to being a student teacher for Secondary ed. Some kids couldn't read an analogue clock at the age of 15. Weren't interested. Don't put that weight on me. I got asked what strategies I could use. I was never given an answer.

Serious question, where do you get proper well informed teacher's when our education system is all about indoctrination and not critical thinking. For at least 4 decades student's are taught what too think and not how too think, memorise and regurgitate is how you get a pass on most subjects with questioning a narrative frowned upon

Covid stuffed up a generation. Jabs killed many, most over 18 to 30 don't even know basic maths. Parents have not been able to disapline their children for 40 years plus, more drug dealers at private schools than public, bullying is punished to the ones that fight back from the bullies. Schools are crap. Home school is the way. Schools are just baby sitters while you slave away at a crap job you hate.

@nickibbear2933

No surprise here. They teach you what to think instead of how to think. Boys have been deliberately disadvantaged, and there's no masculine leadership in education.

Australia has been subject to a managed/controlled decline for decades, ever since the late 1970's...in every aspect, social, economic, academic, industry. The dumbing-down of the populace will accelerate with the increasing use of A.I....soon enough, the human race will not be able to think at all, instead deferring to a corrupt A.I. system.

Treat the teachers better, look into the Nordic countries, the teachers get paid well, they’re respected, good holidays. And the overall system works.

Illiterate, enumerate, and taught to despite their country. Now manipulated to screech hatred on behalf of terrorist. That is Australia's future.

Add the grind of admin load instead of actual teaching.

No matter how smart the teachers are the children have to be in attendance. Education starts at home. The whole education system in Australia needs a major overhaul. Teachers are a major platform in a child’s life let them teach ….politics and parenting not their job

The so-called "education-system" was originally designed to brainwash wage-slaves for factory-toil during the Industrial-Revolution in Britain ... perhaps it's time we begin re-thinking what "education" should ACTUALLY ACHIEVE ....

P&C at Epping Boys. Teachers dont get paid extra for excellence. So we appreciate their excellence and hope to keep them. Some below standard students can make good teachers. Its a bit harder than shouting your outrage on Sky.
