AUDITION TAPE: Aaron Paul audition for Breaking Bad
Video Overview & Insights
LET IT CAST is the revolutionary International casting system used by productions to enable talent submissions through the actual audition for the role.
Interesting they were planning on Jesse being 60
Used by legendary filmmakers like Darren Aronofsky, Paul Schrader, Werner Herzog or Larry Clark.

Walter was 41?!
The goal is to favor the artistic expression of an actor's work over the traditional headshot/resume submission process.
What a loser. Who is this guy? he'll never make it in Hollywood. Especially in show called checks notes breaking bad? Apparently they are in very early stages. The script leaked on the Internet and it's about a chemistry teacher who teams up with one of his ex students to cook meth. Anyway, there's no way this dude would ever get the role for this. They should prolly get the dude from Everwood. Chris Pratt. I thinks he's got potential.
More User Perspectives
He's so relatable. He's like the stoner townie who worked in restaurant kitchens in my 20s.
@hagendfThis dude looks older here than he does now
@Big-SexyI didn’t care much for Aaron’s performance early on in the series, but by the end of it he was easily one of the best.
@FranklinHalfAddicthuge difference from the final scene. He got god damn good tips.
@axorBrilliant 😤
@itunedyouAbsolute gold
@sxne47i mean he's was already made for this role okay on one other can do it like him
@XohaibGreat to see how he developed the character. One of the best performances I know.
@lukasrohde294He should have been nominated for El Camino
@seagull8415How does this not have millions of views
@benroeder3442“Go by the RV we’re gonna start tomorrow” the look of relief on that man’s face I can’t image another actor getting that role and doing a better job than Arron Paul did it’s just not possible
@SSBFadedليه كنه قاىًل متسىلىسل
@80-ر4عI like when he messes up its not perfect but he still got the role
@makamooreSuch a Jesse thing to forget the lines during the audition
@StainedVent9296Interesting that they were originally planning on Walt to be 41
@paxdamaxgaming4920BREAK BAD HE DID
@JuhoSpriteHe’s balding
@spranks918I wonder who else auditioned for this role?
@solidgator123On this day, I wonder if Aaron knew how huge and influential Breaking Bad would become and how much his character would be loved over the years
@FonyYangAaron Paul: Puts his absolute everything into making the intonation sound as convincing as possible.
Interviewer lady: whydoyoudoit
watch how fast he goes back into character 0:44
@GuyYt03Why does he look like Jack Nicholson in the 80s? The video quality also has that feel to me 😂
@solidNJThe original character was going to be 41 ? Not that 41 is old by any stretch, but they had the older guys in the movie in the series they needed somebody drastically different and Aaron was the man..❤
@annabellgrey7657For damn sure. It’s like they wrote this around Jesse. ♥️⭕️
@annabellgrey7657He forgot the line that's the title for the whole show. BRAVO VINCE
@sunisshiningiceisslipperyHe looks older here 🤣
@jellytimb2485I love how much he uses his eyes to express his emotions
@AutumnsrainydazeJesse! We need to cut your hair!
@scaramouche808He really thought he did bad in this…He was so good ❤
@natbennyIn case you're curious... I'm fairly certain this is the "Network Test" audition which is in front of an audience of Vince Gilligan, casting directors, Network executives and Studio executives all with a say in who gets the part. He auditioned probably 3-5 times before this. The casting process is sometimes long for series regulars on a show. It's grueling and hard on your emotions.
@ChurchieShedTodd Chavez is that you?
@enriqueenriqueziii5564His delivery of "..what?" was perfect
@rubeng3Can totally see the final scene if I close my eyes. One of the best shows ever made, and probably ever will be made.
@StrayDogVideosHe showed up ready to play John Bender
@danielberlynYou can tell Aaron took inspiration from John Bender
@JacketsOnFireIt may have been that Walt was originally supposed to be 41 but Bryan Cranston was just so perfect for the role, but he didn’t look 41, so they just changed the age and make the age gap between skyler and walt really weird
@QubemanSeems like a nice guy. Hope he gets the gig.
@ozzie-sk9dhWhy does he look even older here if this was before the show? lol
@Randomthoughts54-r3nNah should have got Erik Stoltz 😂
@jenniferbarron9060He forgets a line but manages to stay in character and not lose too much rhythm when it's read to him
@sqweebel1I like the actual scene better
@bjsimon802Watching this in 2024
@SuvadipSarkar-nn7boMore convincing than he had at the actuall part lol
@WoofieJacksonOf course they hired him for the role, he looks just like Jesse
@maxvader1000Fun fact: After his audition, Aaron didn’t hear back from them for 2 weeks, so he was starting to assume that he didn’t get the role. He later found out that the reason it took 2 weeks for him to get the call is because nobody wanted him except for Vince Gilligan. He wasn’t the Jesse they wanted, he was the Jesse they needed❤️
@craigmeyer6957When he forgets the line she reads it to him "all of the sudden age 50" but he does the line "all of the sudden age what... 50" and I wonder if that is a little bit of improv on his part. It fit perfectly. Dude is 100% natural actor.
