Architect Breaks Down 200 Years of NYC Mansions | Walking Tour | Architectural Digest
Video Overview & Insights
Today Michael Wyetzner of Michielli + Wyetzner Architects joins AD in New York for a walking tour of the city’s mansions. From the early colonial abodes of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr to the grandeur of the Gilded Age, and 20th century brutalist design, Michael walks you through 200 years worth of homes belonging to wealthy New Yorkers past and present.

Wonderful tour, thank you! Yes please, I’d love to see an update with other buildings
@jasonpayneukThe modernist buildings look like they were designed by a toddler - awful
@RJJJ7Too bad duals are illegal today 😂
@troychambliss784So two historic brownstones were torn down to build that ugly thing?? That's a shame. One would hope NYC would have some rules governing historic preservation. I love these videos, but apparently I'm not a fan of modernist architecture.
@TiaCatRBrutalist is so ugly and all the concrete so much pushes down on you visually, making you feel like an enclosed sarcophagus
@Danny30011980quel documentaire formidable. merci
@55AZ55Yes, please, show us more NYC mansions. Thank you for this tour.
@RAHoff700Question: do you cover Moroccan, Ghanaian, Indian and MOOR architecture? What was stolen then recreated?
@TwinkieTellEmhow...how do you move a house to a different location??
@genesissiverioWonderful walking tour. So knowledgeable. Please have more 😊
@PattiNicks-jw3tjAdore sandstone homes they have so much beautiful architecture in Glasgow uk we have loads of beautiful sandstone properties high ceilings, cornicing etc tiled closes you don't get that kind of architecture in today's modern homes.
@sallytorley7817Love the tour, wish you would do one on less wealthy homes. Not tenements, but middle class housing (if any still exists).
@jenisedaiWhat an excellent video
@johnson21800I would love to see a video dedicated to the history of the mansion that houses the Frick Collection in New York City!
@firenze5555@08:28 the movement hated what it represented…! Its a communist ugly design…! Hurts my eyes every time I see it
@wranglercycling6420Fabulous video. But it’s about Manhattan, not NYC.
@billcook4768I expect to see Brad Lander somewhere in this thread
@YourMsRightHereI am a huge Le Corbusier fan.
@primrosed2338Mr. Wyetzner, I love your videos, they're so interesting. Please make more.
@Lady.Scorpio7They keep getting uglier and uglier.
@CheeseBaeInteresting video. I would love to see more.
@MeridethJaneWallaceAnd this is the first time that I feel I really want to go to New York and see these streets and these houses with my very own eyes. Thanks a lot for this inspiration! Priceless!
@pilarguerrero-735:33 wait a minute, we’re just going to gloss over an entire mansion being moved…..how’d they do that without the whole thing breaking apart!?
@mrsgames2uhe's great
@tourguide13Hot take incoming: Modernist style (along with Brutalist architecture) is just soulless and hideous (with exceptions of course). I just adore the Beau Arts and Classical styles. Anyone else agree or disagree?
@NoviliciousModernism is a dirty curse
@FrenchQuarterLitCould you do one with the 5th Avenue ones ??
@janerock2718Can we bring back Beaux-Arts style? Modernism is so boring
@osofilms1319Modernism is spiritually jewish
@AnrtonCribs! Thank you
@kdZA8209Modernism was, and always will be grotesque.
@oldtimer4888Modernism architecture is demoralizing with its ugliness. Its as bad as Brutalism.
@Robster7996After Mt Vernon -- pretty fakebook for the time -- "looks like stone"
@cabdalyThose modernism buildings are super duper ugly. The rest are wonderful
@MrHellenas238:34
As a resident of post Soviet state, I'm so fed up with this "modernist" style...
More mansions please! Thank you! ❤
@dees.4481Appreciated the segment on the Spire mansion
@allthecatsintheuniverseYeah, these new promos on 4ra are like a seal of approval. it makes me trust it more with my money. it feels safe and reliable, and that’s so important.
