Alvaro Arbeloa becomes Fulham head coach, the 43-year-old replaces Marco Silva after the Portuguese was named Benfica boss. Arbeloa was out of work after leaving Real Madrid upon Jose Mourinho's appointment. As a player, he featured in the Premier League for Liverpool and West Ham.

First of all, just because he played for Real Madrid and he won a lot of stuff, that doesn't make him a "Great player". Arbeloa was one of the worst players in that period of Real Madrid dominance. In Madrid, we talk about Florentino's penchant for what are called "pavones and zidanes" meaning players like Pavon who wasn't very good and Zidane who obviously was brilliant. Throughout Florentino's tenure as Real Madrid president there have always been weak links in the teams, Arbeloa was one of them, but they were often so much better than the rest of the league that it didn't matter. Arbeloa was by all standards quite an average top flight player, not great, not bad either, but he wouldn't be compared to players like Trent for Liverpool even, he was more like a Chris Smalling for Manchester United
