Animal Survival in the Okavango (Full Episode) | The Flood | Nat Geo Animals
Video Overview & Insights
What happens when the annual flood arrives in the Okavango Delta? In this first full episode of The Flood, narrated by Angela Bassett, National Geographic follows the wildlife of Botswana’s Okavango as rising waters transform the landscape, bringing new life, new opportunities, and new battles for survival.
wow this is awesome
As floodwaters spread across the delta, animals that call the Okavango Delta home, including lions, leopards, African wild dogs, hippos, cape buffalo, and crocodiles, all battle for supremacy and resources brought by the rising waters.
Set in one of Africa’s most extraordinary wetlands, this part one of The Flood docuseries, First Pulse, captures how the Okavango Delta changes with the arrival of water and how predators, prey, and animal families adapt to a world reshaped by the flood.

@TheWildSurvivesNature is so difficult to survive. Just smart animals could be alive and grow!!!
A natureza sempre recompensa quem sabe evoluir.

@naturezavidabrI wish you guys would show the animals eating more!
@YourscribeladysmoovWhat makes the Okavango so fascinating is that the annual flood completely reshapes the balance of life. Predators must adjust their hunting strategies, while prey search for new routes, food, and safer ground.
@wildnatureus2024Love the hippo's under water so quick and agile unlike on dry ground.
@crystalmiller1713A spectacular look at how a shifting environment tests the absolute summit of the regional Apex Hierarchy. Nat Geo Animals never misses with these full premiere episodes!

@wildsurvive2025The cinematography is absolutely stunning. It feels like I'm exploring the Okavango alongside these animals.
@wildnatureviewerus🦓🌊 Amazing Okavango wildlife! Incredible survival stories and breathtaking nature. 🐘✨
@wildnatureviewwThank you for capturing such raw and breathtaking moments of wildlife magic
@SEC-WildAnimals19:44 I never hear about how the large snakes and crocs return with the water. Even some of the larger fish that surely didn’t grow that big during their time in the local flood. I want to see more about that.
@user-yj2qv4rg8dInformative
@mringramThis is an amazing video❤
There's a hard truth to accept from Animal Survival in the Okavango: nature leaves no room for error, yet humans always get second chances is that fair?
@AigleSauvage_FRWhat is most impressive is not the scenery, but how the species adapt and survive in this harsh environment.
@wildzoneusAfrican jacana birds have the highest nesting success because their floating platforms are absolutely flawless
@gaiadocsENWhat makes the Okavango extraordinary is that it's an inland delta. Seasonal floodwaters arriving from the Angolan highlands create a moving pulse of productivity that supports fish, birds, herbivores, and ultimately the predators that depend on them. This documentary captures that ecological chain beautifully.
@wildversechannelThe scene with the mother buffalo refusing to give up on her calf was one of the most powerful moments in the entire video. When the rest of the herd rushed in to help, it was such a beautiful reminder that survival in the wild often depends on working together. I also loved the contrast between the cheetah's speed, the leopard's patience, and the lions relying on teamwork. Every predator had its own strategy, but every prey animal had incredible instincts too. Nature never paints anyone as simply the hero or the villain, and that's one reason I enjoy documentaries like this so much. Which moment had everyone holding their breath the most?
@AnimalPrimeHubIt's a challenge to all the animals to survive a flood in their own unique way. A blend of strength, patience and courage.🙏👍
@jharnadas8873Amazing wildlife
@WildDocs88Please Upload Africa's deadliest Series Season 1, 2 , 3 in stable volume please nat Geo team i am big fan of that series
@AbhinavSingh-f5v7nThe flood doesn't just create challenges—it creates opportunities for wildlife too.
@VdesiertoprofundoThat shift from lions dominating the dry plains to hippos completely ruling the flooded highways is incredible. The documentary perfectly captures how water redraws the power lines in the Okavango. Also that single dad lily trotter scooping up his chicks under his wings was easily the best part. Outstanding storytelling and cinematography.
@naturesmomentstvIt's incredible how one flood can reshape the lives of so many different animals.
@savageinstincts01It's amazing how an annual flood can bring so much life to an entire ecosystem.
Wait, so a massive flood happens every year and instead of running away, everyone just throws a pool party? Huge thanks to the channel, this content is pure gold!
