How do we know she’s indeed autistic?

Was she nonverbal when she was a baby? When did she start speaking

Ight my homie, Thomas, is non-verbal autistic. He uses typing as his way to communicate. Many people think he is, well dumb, (lacking proper wording) and I did until I got to know him. He is honestly the most intelligent person in this world. He fully understands 4 languages, very advanced in the humanities, theological studies, and STEM fields. Also he got that DAWG in him boiii. He goes up to girls and rizzes them up. He understands how to flirt and does it affective. He also loves sports and knows who to trash talk you. I’m single so he understands that’s my weakness, so he greets me as “what’s up single”. I highly suggest that you never judge anyone by their outward appearance, for some of most fluent people are absolute idiots and some silent people are down right intelligent. Love this interview.

I use TTS at times and she is right.. most ppl dont have patience for us 😢 im not fast enough for most ppl, either speaking or typing

I often wonder if our autism comes from our point of origin and the language that we were created from and the language that we were brought into the world into forced to translate terms that we don't understand because they were created way later than our DNA can understand.

I love watching those with disabilities advocating for themselves and for their communities.

I have a speech problem and often I get judged and it just makes me so annoyed when people don't understand. It's harder for some people to talk, I have never used adaptive technology. My parents just never thought I needed it but I know other ways to communicate to my peers and all of my family. I would sometimes use a yes or no gesture with my hands or I would try to use sign language if anybody knows it, it just makes it so much easier for me and I have a block stutter is unable to get my words out sometimes

Isint this just selective mutism instead of non verbal. Non verbal is no speech at all beyond some grunts and small words.

I’m an autistic adult, and I want them to invent a cure now! I’m lonely, no woman wants me, I can’t take care of myself. I’m a man! I need a wife and kids! That’s my dream and autism activists are actively trying to keep that from happening!

I'm trying to understand why she needs a device to speak and she speaks so very well. And they are still alot of people that can't speak and or are non verbal. Can someone enlighten me please...?

I wasn’t diagnosed as autistic until I was 38, almost 39. I knew I was different since preschool. Most people have always treated me as if I was different. It’s like I had a sign on my back that I couldn’t see it everyone else could. I didn’t start to consider autism until I turned 30, and my husband brought it up with me as well without knowing all the research I was doing.

I’ve just always felt othered. The people that I got along with the best were also ND themselves, whether that was autistic, non verbal learning disorders, adhd, etc. many of them didn’t find out until they were adults as well, and it did factor into the consideration for myself.

Instead of talking I like to nod my head or point.. or give some kind of expression..

I commend how she says how life is like with Austim, you don't ask a man with both of his arms what it's like, it's how she is, it's not up to her to change for our needs.

It's so sad to hear how different it can be to live with autism as a black vs. white person, really wish the world wouldn't be like that...

Well that was eye-opener!
My niece is said to have it. Her eye contact is very brief. She is 12. But she doesn’t have any speech issues, yet she doesn’t like to talk. Any attempt at having a conversation with her is bound to fail. But she writes so well, so clearly.
In fact, her teachers say that she writes more than necessary, and that she has an urge to elaborate every tiny point.

This is pretty cool that she's using an AAC to communicate. It's awesome 😊. My husband is autistic as well but he's still an awesome person.

I feel her. I have and also have OCD and its the part most difficult of the world to go outside to be social with others.

I love that you are doing so much better now at interviewing adults on your channel and making the interviews feel different in tone then the kid interviews . Much respect.

Wow, her autism is like mine!! She makes me feel very seen. My communication style is focused on my gestures, facial expressions, body language, and head nodding/shaking. I don’t like responding to things out loud, so people often think I’m being cold or rude. It’s never intentional, but it’s gotten me in trouble.

And with all due respect, I applaud her verbal communication. I would never have guessed that she experiences any difficulty had I not read the title and had I not know the context.

I’ve heard that the state of North Carolina has a lot of agencies that have people with all kinds of disabilities. You should have shows with people from NC

I understand it’s difficult but we cannot bend our entire society to cater to our weakest few. I certainly think we can make them more comfortable but we can’t be angry that our world isn’t built for wheel chair users. Speech is central to our species.

Honestly if i talked to her at the store i wouldnt even think anything is wrong..
