The guy in the Browns long-sleeve said it best and was echoed by your driver/escort. Everyone I know (28yo professional) who lives downtown is exactly as they say, young professionals (especially in the Tremont/Ohio City areas and Downtown). Younger milennials and gen Z professionals/college grads/"white collar" however you want to describe them and also blue collar service industry people mainly working in the thriving restaurant industry in Cleveland. Cleveland is a great mix of affordable and livable. If the city hadn't been crippled by 100 years of both overt and de facto racism (might I mention modern zoning laws were pioneered in Euclid, OH - look up Euclidean zoning), the City would be one of the greatest in North America. Cleveland (and Akron together) could be exceptional with a little investment and great management.

I have lived all over the country. SW desert, KC, Pacific NW, FL, but Cleveland was home. Haven't lived there for 10 years, but in my heart, it's still home. The cultural diversity, the parks, the museums and performing arts centers, and the medical services are amazing. The Browns, well, they continue to embarrass. But I keep hoping...

Drugs did this, crack did this, alcohol did this, mental illness did this. Blame, Blame, Blame. Funny how none of that happened when East Cleveland was full of Slavic people. But, yeah, I guess you can BLAME it on racism - racism and government, the same government certain people vote for over and over again.

@hasaneurope4603Most of Ohio is basically my personal idea of hell...but I was quite surprised by how much I liked Cleveland. Rough around the edges but a lot of wicked cool neighbourhoods, beautiful old architecture, some nice restaurants and boutique retail, light rail that's actually useful (unlike its neighbour Buffalo) and with Lake Erie it really does feel like you're on the coast. If I was forced to move someplace in the US outside of New England, Cleveland would definitely be on my short list for new home options.
@williamjameslehy134111:03 that was not a dirt plot. It was a whole plaza with many businesses. A lot of these weren’t random dirt plots but people’s homes that were pushed out and into further poverty.
@jennagordon51911:22 where did all the people that did drugs go? Or were they just pushed out and left to die?
@jennagordon519We didn’t forget Cleveland, we just choose to look away.
@TurdFerguson6969Bro will say anything but gentrification
@juliavogel4930Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown are among some of my favorite cities to visit in Ohio. I'm Rust Belt born and raised (Erie, PA) and really enjoy seeing the old factories and learning about the history of this part of the country I grew up in.
@mayavenuemisfit814Really well done! Born and raised in the east side suburbs of Cleveland... would have loved to see a bit about how the urban decline was juxtaposed with the suburban expansion... similar to many other U.S. cities there are a plethora of thriving suburbs including some of the wealthiest zip codes in the midwest and many excellent school districts. Shaker Heights in particular is incredibly beautiful... was developed in the early 1900s and has huge old architecture homes absolutely worth a drive through for anyone in the area. if you go further out there is Chagrin Falls which feels like a small New England town with waterfalls running right through the center of town. Not to takeaway from the city itself but certainly gives some context as the city limits population is under 400k but the greater metro area is closer to 2 million. Last thing there is an ongoing project to build new affordable housing in the city limits mainly by reclaiming old industrial lots and creating new thriving zones... i believe the goal is 10,000 new homes in the next decade (the project is still in the very early stages so TBD on if it pans out)
@zachzelman418Cleveland was in the dumps long before China came on board. China became a member of WTO in 2001. By then the damage was done. Steel was damaged by foreign competition but by the late 70's many factories had moved South and Southwest to take advantage of cheap labor and no unions. Then China ate their lunch. If you voted for Reagan-Bush-Clinton you helped
@tennjed0606Two guys, one city, what's the score here?
@opengnosis8555You said it yourself. The industry left. The middle class left. Who were you left with?
@Daniel-t2m5gYeah, the cops destroyed the city, sure.
@Daniel-t2m5gSeems like the city has been making alot of progress since they are in the center off the Rust Belt. Definitely looks like a city slowly transitioning for the better with those left behind from the blue collar days in between.
@gary9933I hope that the cat at 3:04 came up to you and got lots of pets. Seeing animals on the street like that make me sad
@Nitalla_CreatesI had to pull up my bootstraps just watch this video. #BoomerSwag #BringNTheBoom

@taurathI went to Cleveland and saw both of their buildings. Fun times in Cleveland.
@crowtservoСколько у вас там идеалистов, однако. Материалисты в Америке бывают вообще?
@0x00000101Blacks always blame everything else but themselves for making the places they live uncivilized and crime ridden i have never heard one take accountability and say you know what man its us we could decide to stop the crime and clean up our streets but for some reason the majority of places we are the majority group in those areas they are bad places to live. Wonder what the common denominator is ? HHHmmmmmm i wonder ?
@brandonhopkins7083The diferencie between Ckeveland and Detroit is that Cleveland didn t lose much white mid class as Detroit did.....
@pablotupone4190Bigger than Los Angeles????? Nooooooooo
@pablotupone4190Regentrification is nice. Doing what the immigrants did to make it local living but they're making it impossible for an Middle income to live there. The families of the immigrants who made it can't afford it now. I grew up Un Detroit Ave near Gordon Square. Now homes are going for 500k. That means taxes go up that means people whose homes were inherited can't afford to pay their taxes as senior citizens. Regentrification should not leave anyone behind.
@missyj9909They didn't just have it all, they had Harvey Pekar too!
@berniekatzroyFreeways, White Flight, move to the Sun Belt.
@drpoundsignWOW! Detroit was once the Fifth largest city, Too.
East Cleveland is like Highland Park, MI, thesetting of "Gran Torino."
