America’s Drinking Age Makes No Sense - The Jim Jefferies Show
Video Overview & Insights
Alcohol is killing young people in the United States, and one reason for that may be that the drinking age is too high.
The combination of total freedom from parents and the inability to drink legally just makes us college kids behave even worse in underground communities.

Sure.... allow your children to start drinking while their brains are still growing. This causes permanent damage and disabilities further in life.
About The Jim Jefferies Show:
The Jim Jefferies Show is here to shake up the humdrum formula of the political late-night show. Jim tackles the news of the day with no-bulls**t candor, piercing insight and a uniquely Aussie viewpoint.
You should be able to either opt out or be able to join the draft and guarantee the right to vote the right to use alcohol or marijuana at the age of 18
The Jim Jefferies Show airs Tuesdays at 10:30/9:30c on Comedy Central.
I was aloud to drink at 16…..and mine parents gave me drinks before that…and that works…America is strange and all the point he said is right but for me the hardest thing is that you send your kids to war but a beer is a problem😮😮😮

I think 21 drinking age is amazing age not too high not too low
@FJFNJRNFOThis is why we have 18 to drink in a bar, but 20 to buy alcohol in Sweden. The thinking goes that drinking under supervision can be done earlier than private consumption. Not that that stops teenagers from having parties though.
@dijikstra8I'm on a US Air Force in West Africa. Drinking age here is 18.
@haraldkunstmann6455The worst thing is the drinking age on American bases. You leave the base in Germany and beer / wine age is 16, but once you get back onto the base, it's 5 years more.
@LMB222Hello from the first country on the list: Côte d'Ivoire :)
@kambousansan8340Is this america!?
Maybe the American government need there 18 years old guys to fighting there "freedom to drink" around the whole world!!
hey Jim speak it to a brick. you;ll get the same affect
@julesmarwell8023In Belgium hard spirits can only be purchased at 18 but Beer and wine can be bought at 16
@georgebardsley7129Kids in Europe are less likely to binge drink than kids in America. The fact that they can get the alcohol at a younger age removes that enticing "forbidden fruit" factor. If you are used to it then having a glass of beer or wine is no big deal.
@mattalley4330Guess we better have soccer clubs
@fightingblindlyfraternaty/Hazing does not exist in Greece & has nothing to do with greek mythology or history.
Idiotic that the USA has 21 age for alcohol but can buy a gun at 18!! In Greece & other countries parents will give a teenager a little wine or beer during dinners. It is considered a family tradition .
I believe the legal age for drinking should be 16, Idk about hard liquor? maybe slightly 17? But Idk, I believe 16 sounds about right, for most things, I believe, and specially if your emancipated
@uttuipUSA is a country in its infancy.
@anton1949I remember been in my local when I was 18 in Scotland and an American guy was in and he said to me ,its strange seeing all yall teenagers in a bar .back home they'll all on drugs .
@cammyg216Can college kids afford to drink in bars? Just asking because it’s getting more expensive here in Scotland.
@LordHughBungusLook at it this way. In America one can become as husband and father, buy guns,vote, and get legs blown off in war. But you are too immature to have a beer and cigarettes
@mikerawls9619First time I had any issue buying alcohol was when self-service tills came out, I was in My fifties! Have only been barred once from a pub, when My Mate and I had Our joint eighteenth birthday party in Our local, the manager, who knew Us by name banned Us for 12 hours from closing time, 3 hours away, when because it was a Saturday night the bar would shut for 13 hours anyway!
@lesliemackay7853Yes yes a middle-aged drunken Australian is the perfect mascot for the war on the legal drinking age
@draconariusking8328Denmark = haha thats cute
Our drinking age is 16 and most of us starts at 12
comedy and politics ... not funny
@josuelabila1789And now smoking
@janoycresva276It makes perfect sense if you get that US still views life through puritanical/conservative glasses. Anything done for pleasure/relaxing (like alcohol) - has to be restricted as long as possible, anything connected to duty/suffering/upholding conservative ideals (like marriage, military) - allowed as soon as possible. There is method to their madness
@51stcenturygirlFairness, the Greek gods were much, MUCH worse to their mortal counterparts... and each other...
@emorydaniel9084Gotta be honest... if we made it legal to drink at 16 the liquor industry would collapse.
Teenagers drink because it's against the rules.
Have you believed the gospel? The gospel is that Jesus died on the cross for your sins was buried and rose again the third day
@QueenTerra77I think the drinking law should be lowered to 18 like every other country. I don't drink for reasons that are personal.
@bettygrable2698The minimum drinking age is dumb. The fact that weed is still illegal is even dumber.
@kevuseth8027At least it isn't 25 (like in Mumbai, Delhi and other parts of India)
@tanishjain9190If they can vote or go to war why can’t they buy beer or cigarettes ???
@GlizzardWizard33Prohibition look it up
@ZaKi550-6Drinking age issue of America is due to socialist thinking of state protection of indiviviual irresponsibility. Yes America,you're becoming comunists!... Come to Brasil see how this works
@leolana6729i cant understand that. a 15 years old can get a lifetime in prison but can't drink alcohol
@GSenseiYes, why should there be an age limit to let someone ruin their lives?
@skyhigh2118This guy is not funny
@thaddeust.thirdiii736I do think alcohol is a hard drug, just like nicotine. Drugs like MDMA (ecstasy) and cannabis are less addictive and a lot safer in many ways. You can't overdose MDMA (existing deaths are due to toxic fillers inside ecstasy) and you can't overdose cannabis either or die from it.
But as always: making something illegal because you think it's bad/unhealthy is NEVER the solution. Illegal = no regulation = non-supervised situations = harder to protect kids. This is somewhat different argument, because I do think alcohol is unhealthy for young people with developing brains (till 27) but it should be their own choice. Also learning people to consume a hard drug like alcohol and soft drugs like cannabis and ecstasy in moderation is a lot better because you will never be able to prevent it.
The drinking age is 21 because if it wasn't there would be a group of annoying ass 18yo's at every bar in town. & aren't 21yo's insufferable enough as it is?
@cheapdopeBruh the drinking age in Delhi, India is 25
@notanikdeyMy mother use to let me and my friends drink at 16, she would always ask my friends parents if it was ok. It was great, we got to have a few beers and have fun. My mates parents and my mother was happy because we where usually in my shed (was our chill spot). We where safe and supervised. The only other option apart from not drinking (wasnt going to happen) or drink down by a river in a field.
I'm glad my mother let us do that
I am tired of saying this but there is NO FEDERAL DRINKING AGE. States set the age. They all set it up at 21 because if they do they can qualify for interstate highway funding. In Puerto Rico the drinking age is 18 because we believe if america is going to draft our asses we may as well have a beer while at it.
@Lafoka555The age you set for people to vote is an indication you consider that person an adult and technically responsible enough to select the leadership of the country so drinking should be tied to that as well.
@DougieMonster311:18 Dionysus was known to throw some killer parties!
@mattienorml349I thought the 21 year drinking age was to reduce alcohol-related accidents. The 5 years after getting a license was needed to make driving more automatic and reduce the odds of having an accident even if intoxicated.
I thought the drinking age on military bases used to be 18, but was changed to match state laws.
