Video Overview & Insights

Alex Pereira's retirement threat reveals a bigger UFC problem involving fighter safety, referee accountability, illegal strikes, and a solution the promotion has refused to adopt.

Blame it on the referees not the fighter! They are there to enforce rules you can’t allow multiple groin kicks..multiple eye pokes..back of the head shots..fence grabbing etc the warning comes backstage before the fight even starts once it happens in the cage it should be a automatic point the first time!! Only way to make fighters think twice

Refs 99% of the time pause the fight if a fighter winces from a POTENTIAL groin shot and eyepokes and watches the tape to make sure. How tf is 15 dangerously suspicious back of the head strikes not warranted for a tape review???? Bc Herb Dean genuinely thinks he's infallible

ABOUT THIS EPISODE:

He says doing his part as a Guy who put out all the efforts for more safety of all fighters & nothin about his future Fights

— @AdinHmar

Alex Pereira says he may retire from MMA after the controversy surrounding his loss to Ciryl Gane, and the reaction across the combat sports world has been explosive. But this isn't just a story about one fight, one referee, or one bad night. It's a story about fighter safety, officiating, and whether the UFC is ignoring solutions that already exist.

In this video, I break down the back-of-the-head strikes that landed during Pereira vs. Gane at Freedom 250, Pereira's retirement comments, and why so many fighters continue to lose faith in the people responsible for protecting them inside the cage. Was Alex Pereira overreacting, or does he have a legitimate point?

The UFC was practically complicit in a 'crime' by not showing the replay of the fight to the public at the exact moment Ciryl Gane landed several illegal strikes to the back of Alex Pereira's head! This part wasn't shown to the live crowd at the venue, nor to the audience watching online! This leaves a massive bad impression on the organization! It’s as if they were trying to legitimize Ciryl Gane’s victory just because it was an event at the White House with Donald Trump in attendance! What the UFC did is very sketchy! Rules are rules, period! This fight should have been declared overturned and a No Contest that very same day, right then and there! In fact, if the UFC and the athletic commission are honest and fair, there is still time for them to do this! And it would be the right thing to do!

— @RedNose-ig7gd

I also examine Ciryl Gane's history of controversial fouls and illegal strikes, along with the broader discussion surrounding referee accountability in MMA. From Herb Dean's role in major UFC controversies to the ongoing debate over fighter safety, there are serious questions that continue to go unanswered.

Most importantly, I take a deep dive into the Trevor Wittman glove, the solution many fighters, coaches, and analysts have been advocating for years. The UFC has already seen the data. Fighters have already voiced support. So why hasn't the promotion fully embraced a system that could reduce eye pokes, hand injuries, and some of the most common safety issues in the sport?

The Cyril Gane Effect, he should change his nickname to The Farmer with the way he’s out here trying to harvest vegetables

— @seymour_asses_9211

Finally, we look at the business side of the equation. If a solution exists and the reigning UFC champion is publicly begging for change, why hasn't it happened? Is this really a fighter safety issue, or is it ultimately a business decision? Let me know where you stand in the comments below, and don't forget to subscribe for more UFC news, MMA analysis, fighter stories, and Fight Society breakdowns.

Signs an 8 fight deal an says, “I’m happy, the UFC took care of me”…3 Days Later/One Fight In…”I’m see what Tom Aspinall is talking about, my livelihood is not worth the fuckin money”. This tiny doorbell region is ridiculous. We gonna split hairs in a cage fight? Get real. The back of the head is the back of the head. The brainstem is in the base of the skull. It controls heartbeat and breathing and the skull is thinnest there. That’s why you can have a fall and become vegetablized. Your breathing stops and you go braindead. 4 dildos called referees are ruining the entire legitimacy of the sport. At this point, I wanna see some fresh faces. It’s like these characters are manufacturing consent. Tom gotta go blind? Alex gotta quit the sport? The UFC has already lost lawsuits for their unfair treatment of fighters. Let’s not play fucking dumb, it’s becoming a clown show and the loudest voices sound like absolute casuals. Immediate disqualifications and losses on their record, a drop in the rankings and less pay would clear this shit up lickety split. God forbid an arena full of drunks boos.

Not calling out Herb dean is just cope. He let Gane get away with 10 or so of those back of the head shots that Gane used to chase the finish. If he would have stopped Gane and warned him, then Alex would have recovered better. Nobody's getting up after taking that beating to the back of the head. 100% Herb Dean's fault.

I would really want fighters to feel comfortable and these gloves looks just perfect. Its a shame how ufc is cheap

Those gloves will not stop eye pokes open palm is the natural reaction to defense yea it’s curved to a fist but u can still extend your fingers even fighters swipe there fingers across the eyes those gloves won’t stop that .

Lest not act like most fighters hit ppl in the back of the head and if your moving your head while getting hit from the side u can get hit on the nape

@EdwinLopez-t1n

Is it because Herb Dean and Cyril Gane are black? Are black refs helping black fighters? Well no, because Gane kicked Jones in the balls too. If you think Gane injures fighters on purpose, call for his suspension.

He’s got the upper hand in very few matches here and there due to illegal strikes, like against Jiri. If he wants to retire he had an illustrious career regardless

Trevor Whitman only threw out the 100 mil figure as a joke because he wanted to license the gloves to the UFC but the UFC refused to be partners in it and would only buy it outright, Trevor didn't want to lose his baby so he tossed out a ridiculous number he knew they wouldn't accept.
