"On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress
Running like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat
She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'til your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
"These days, " she says, "I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat"
While she looks at you so coolly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat
Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice and lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drumbeat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the newborn day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now, you're gonna stay
In the year of the cat
Mm, year of the cat"

Class of 75 here. I am a cat lover and a big Alan Parsons Project fan. Alan engineered this album for Al Stewart like he did so many others.

Class of 70 here. I've always loved this song. Reminds me of my wife. Drifting home on a 1 hour ride by motorcycle from night shift on deserted roads at 1:30 AM in near freezing weather. Brings back good memories.

I was a teen in the mid-70s and always found that decade dreamy, mellow and inspired. This song always reminds me of that.

@TeresaTos-nn4drGreat story telling always leads to stellar music. This is no exception.
@crimsonwhiteandindigoP I am
@Tracy-d1j7jFirst time I heard this song I was walking along a busy road and I had to poop so bad. I crossed somebody's yard, went behind a tree and dropped my pants. A car drove by and the radio in the car was playing this song. The car stopped and the driver just sat there staring. I was so embarrassed. But it was a good song.
@FungusWarrioryeah...Time Passages is a little cringe.
@hmackie6823Maybe I am misrememberring.Maybe he hated "Time Passages" also by Al!
@hmackie6823I think it's Brilliant!
@hmackie6823At 67, listening to this song, I began to cry. I realized how homesick I am for my era. I don't belong here.

@pedroalcantara7328I am still listening to the Beatles! I watched them first when I was nine years old back in February 1964! There is no other band that comes close! I was listening to Crosby Stills and Nash which was one of my favorite bands from the late 1960βs and early 1970βs! When I noticed that The Beatles Greatest Hits was playing I started listening to them! I was π€ about how much talent there was between those 4 guys! No one can compare to the Beatles! So there I went! listening to them for the next hour!β€β€β€β€β€β€β€β€β€πππππππ
