Strange video African women versus African-American women. What is the difference? Are both of these groups African women but half of these African women moved to America and then changed their identity to African-American women?

Episode Overview

This episode of The Bridge brings together African women—born and raised on the continent of Africa—and African American women—born and raised in the United States—to engage in an open and honest dialogue about identity, womanhood, culture, and shared ancestry. While they share similar skin color (or African roots), their lived experiences, societal norms, and cultural values have been shaped by vastly different histories and environments. The discussion will explore the intersections and tensions between African traditions and the African American experience, as well as points of unity and mutual respect.

1:40 everyone in the world share Africa roots if that’s the case and the confusion comes when black Americans started taking on the title “African American” because if your family has been here 500+ years we so far removed from Africa.

— @mrs.willingham9078

Episode Goals

Foster Understanding – Help both groups better understand the unique struggles, strengths, and perspectives of the other.

0:14 yellow where?🤔 in the dress? Gurl bye😒

— @mrs.willingham9078

Challenge Stereotypes – Break down common misconceptions and address cultural myths that fuel division.

Celebrate Shared Heritage – Highlight the richness of African roots and the resilience of the diaspora experience.

Black Americans culture was given to them they were made to do what the owner said. Woman were made to work beside the men. So it is much different.

— @angeliashinaul3424

Encourage Dialogue – Inspire viewers to have their own cross-cultural conversations with openness and curiosity.

Promote Unity Across Borders – Show that differences can be acknowledged while still fostering connection, respect, and solidarity.

31:10 I know so many girls here in Namibia who work for their first wig like someone would work for their first house or car.

I think the problem with a lot of ppl in the world is that we kind of base our views and beliefs off child hood . Children don’t know nothing and say a lot lol so we can judge the kids who just hear jokes

OMGoodness, the finale of the program sent chills through me. Black American women and African women are the same. It's our cultures that are different. We must learn to love one another as being the same. You've heard the cliche, "Together we stand, Divided we fall".

Why don’t people from Africa have the same Trauma as Black people in America? They kiss the white mans feet 🦶 to this day. Let’s talk about that. 😢 Africa! your people were stolen, and you just forget. No trauma nothing. You spit on the Evolution of survival. We are the children of the ancestors they stole for your Land. Where is the disconnect? Why don’t you guys have a memorial 😢? Where is your Honor for your blood lines? Out of sight out of mind uh 🙄 until you come to America and they treat you like us lol. Thank God For Ethiopia ❤they showed you how it should have been done. ✅

I love being a black woman 🎉

@aaliyahssi
@

African-american as in Africans from africa? Because any black person born in america is not african-american at all zero...absolutely not they are AMERICAN. SO there really shouldn't be a difference between African American and African but there is a huge difference in African and black american...let's debate

I don't expect any love from the nations of this wicked world. Africa or any other nation. So called Africans hunted and sold my Mishpacha into slavery unto the nations of, European, Islamic and American slavery. The nations of te whole world bought, brutalized, graped, lynched, burned, feed our babies alive to alligators boiled alive and ate my Mishpacha from the nations of the continent of so called Africa.

Witnessing to All Nations;(Mark 13:10-13; Luke 21:10-19)
Matthew 24:9Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and (*" YE SHALL BE HATED OF ALL NATIONS FOR MY NAMES SAKE!.") 10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Y'all saying her skin no where near yellow. When I was younger I was so light but now I'm really dark. Usually people get darker as they get older and considering I'm much much darker than her, but as a kid was so light I can imagine how light she was, and that wasn't the point

As a Black Caribbean woman I love to see this kind of dialogue and bonding between the black communities not the diaspora wars. I love it. We need more of this.

Getting pregnant in Black Americans community was respecting the Home.

@JoeyWatson-m6n
@

What the problem I see with the conversation is there should be Black Americans woman and African women of different ages for their perceptions. These are young women of today's options.Respect in the Black Americans Family is culture. South raised Blacks and North raised Blacks have different life experiences.

I wish African American women respected us men like the African women. And some of them do.

@dun3154
@

Your values depend on your character, not your skin colour. Society often tricks people into thinking they are worth less because of how they look. True freedom starts when you realise this is a lie and know you are just as valuable as anyone else.

The two african lady’s at both ends do look African the other ones in the middle can pass for anything else. But the Nigerian lady looks extremely Nigerian

@danigomes7879
@

When an African teaches how to be a wife they are talking about teaching you how to deal with a husband. What to take personally and what to understand is inevitable in a marriage. It’s understanding relationships not just cook and clean. Are you not gonna cook and clean outside of a relationship?

@danigomes7879

It made me so sad to hear the young African women say their hair and skin wasn’t a huge consideration until they came to America. I feel like America steals innocence in every aspect. 😢😢

It’s important to also consider the literal centuries of physical and mental enslavement that generations of African American women have endured and survived. This was a beautiful discussion, but unfortunately many, if not most of us, are still unaware of the systemic roadblocks that persist BY DESIGN. I want so badly for my community to be able to learn & grow, but that’s easier said than done when we live in a nation that intentionally attacks our wellbeing.

@jaimcmillan135
@

It's so sad to hear them speak as if we are "not one of them". We are literally only African American because we were born in America. Our ancestors were slaves. I wish Africans would see us as long-lost relatives and put more energy into promoting the return of our people to the motherland.
