When I first caught this movie in the winter of 2003, I actually thought someone had made a movie about my life. At the time, I was a twenty something film nerd who treated Robert McKee's Story like it was The Bible on Screewnriting, and I was an undiagnosed autistic trying to make sense of why social things never made much sense to me. Why I always felt like I was on the outside of things. Meanwhile, my little brother succeed in so many ways I just couldn't. So, Charlie Kaufman as presented in this movie felt like me and Adaptation became my favorite movie the year it came out. The ability to be seen like that eclipsed for me the deep admiration I had for The Two Towers.

I have nothing but respect for Cage working even harder and not being too proud to take on low budget movies. Most people once they "make it" resort to drugs and don't take roles that are "beneath" them. I always loved his acting style, he definitely has range. I always saw the memes as a tribute to him, not a critique.

I just finished watching the movie and it was good. Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, and Chris Copper give amazing performances and the cast is amazing! Despite being featured prominently in the trailer, the song “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie from the former’s 1982 album “Hot Space” does not appear in the film.
