TIMESTAMPS ─ in the comments section, i decided to put them there since, for some reason, there is less possibility that the video will be blocked, let's see if it works

COPYRIGHT ─ all rights to the original owners, i don't own any music or images used in this video

To everyone who's studying with this video:

Checklist:

• A bottle of water, at least 1 liter. Your brain works better if it has enough water and drinking helps you to concentrate💧

• Your charger. You sometimes don't even notice that your device's battery is going down, so better have it plugged in all the time🔋

• Your headphones. You will be able to focus more with headphones because it blocks background noises. Also, if it's a late-night study session, you won't wake up anyone🎧

• a tea or coffee. Coffee keeps you awake, and green or black tea can make you feel more awake as well.☕

• Your study/work stuff: your laptop/tablet/phone, a few pens, paper, or whatever you need.⌨

• Anything else you could need, what about a heating pad, a blanket, a good lamp, or your pet so you have a study buddy 🐈

Reminder: After an hour, you should stand up and walk around. Better stop the music or put on a different theme for the break. Open your window, even if it's cold outside. Fresh air will make it better, trust me.

You could also lie on your desk for ten minutes and listen to a podcast. Or, if you have to read a book, listen to the audiobook of it. You can also listen to the audiobook while doing another thing, that's even better than listening to music while reading the book. 📖

I hope y'all had a good day, if not, that's okay too. Remember to take care of yourself and try to get some sleep tonight 😴🧸

This is what I wrote while listening to this and thinking about films:

A film is not a product of a single mind—it does not owe its greatness only to the artistic prowess of a director. It is wrong to say that it’s Nolan’s film or Spielberg’s masterpiece. They don’t own the film as a writer owns his novel or a painter owns her painting.

This is the beauty of film: its ability to bring together a vast array of artistic brilliance, from screenwriters to actors, cinematographers to sound designers, editors to makeup artists, and costume designers to VFX artists. If you take one of these out of the equation, the light that shines out of the projector dims in its emotional weight.

For art is emotions. Or, more precisely, its ability to raise within us emotions of elevated value. Not all emotions are elevated—lust isn’t, but love is; fear isn’t, but courage is. Even though it might be that these elevated emotions almost always have a necessary base correlate.

Why is it that only human beings are capable of creating art? It has to do with our strange minds; we are capable of feeling emotions in response to mere thoughts. We don’t have to see someone suffer to have compassion for them; the mere thought will do us in.

Therefore, films that give rise to these elevated emotions within us are the only films worthy of the honorific designation of art. The intensity of these elevated emotions matters too: the awe and grandeur I felt for human existence while watching The Tree of Life was greater in intensity than when watching 2001: A Space Odyssey. But here, I am aware of the subjectivity of art, as it might be that the opposite order of intensity was felt by someone who was more fascinated by the ingenious work of Kubrick.

Why is art subjective? Because different people have different emotional responses.

The art of films is not confined to any specific genre—it is evident in drama as much as in horror. Hereditary is as much art as Manchester by the Sea—both films deal with the loss of family, albeit in completely different ways.

Like all art, films also have a responsibility in society: to work toward its betterment and progress. And the best way to do that is by making us more empathetic and ready to take action in our lives.

Films (or any art form) that make us oblivious to suffering all around us by giving us a distorted picture of reality, as if it were a reality we should hope for, do great harm to our culture. And films have been found guilty of this terrible charge because they have played their part in keeping our societies and collective psyche unjust, conservative, and dogmatic.

Can films do philosophy? I don’t think they can. The best they can do is introduce audiences to philosophical questions. They can act as a doorway into the realm of philosophy, but the hard work needed in that realm is beyond the reach of film production.

Thank you for starting with a pic of a left-handed writer. And yes, it's hard to write left-handed in a spiral notebook.

All the little awkward things you didn't even notice (just accommodated) at the beginning of your life. Then it slowly dawned that, to this world, you're part alien. (But truly, 100% normal to me.)
