FAQs ~

Listening to your thoughts about therapy, whether to switch therapists, feeling stagnant, etc., I have a little food for thought. I find I feel so stagnant when I am learning a skill, which i know sounds weird, but if there are 5 steps, by step 3 I feel like things are going too slow and I want to abandon ship. What I will say though is that if you stick it out with this therapist, I think you may find that once you have all the tools and begin just living life with this tool belt at the ready, I think then you will begin to make strides and feel like things are progressing. I hope this perspective can help in some way… I love your videos!

As someone who was in the therapist role in grad school, it’s more than okay. The therapeutic relationship is still a relationship and it needs to be beneficial. Begin by asking if you two could touch base on your treatment plan objectives and compare it to the progress made. Introduce the idea of termination and she should lead from there.

This video is about day in my life, day in the life, day in my life vlog, productive day in my life

Stop going to couch therapy! Look for a Neuroplasticity practitioner near you, I healed more in 6 hrs of neuro transformation therapy than I did in 25+ yrs of couch and chemical stacks for CPTSD, Suicide ideation and anxiety, I became certified in the process because it works so well and continues to work throughout my life.

15:46 ask your therapist if they’re open to doing talk therapy sessions between dbt ones if the program allows? Sometimes they don’t know your needs have changed if you don’t tell them, especially if the current programming is working

It’s tough because I feel like some emotional regulation skills need EMDR or IFS therapy to really identify root causes. Praying for wisdom as you discern what’s the best next step for you!

Going into therapy at the end goal should always be “to get where I don’t need to see you anymore.” If you feel like things are not moving, then you definitely need a new therapist. Any great therapist will be happy to partways with you if you feel they aren’t helping you. They want you to get the help that you need so that you can get to a place where you no longer need help. This is coming from someone who spent 10+ years in and out of therapy until I finally found a therapist who helped me wrap my head around that and helped me get to where I can use the tools I need daily on my own.
I hope that you see this and I hope you find the therapist that leads you to where you need to be and want to be! ❤

something my therapist told me recently that was awesome was "stop making up stories/scenarios when you don't know what's going on." For example, I don't know why my friend hasn't texted me back, and I started spiraling and thinking about all the reasons he could be ignoring me and my therapist was like "why are you spending time doing that? You don't know what is going on with him and you don't control other people, so just let it be and assume the best"

hi Hannah!! I hope you’re having a lovely Sunday 🫶🏽 just wanted to comment on how you’re feeling with therapy since I was in the same place back in Feb with feeling like I wasn’t making “enough” progress — but it took a few close friends pushing me to realize that it’s because I actually wasn’t being as honest and transparent as I could be about 1) my therapy goals and 2) quite frankly, the ongoing symptoms I was experiencing that I was completely ignoring in my day to day life. once I had that conversation my therapist was like “oh, you very much also have OCD and that’s why what we’ve been doing isn’t working” :’) after that I pretty quickly started treatment and medication, which were things I had previously been so scared of and why I hadn’t brought up my 24/7 intrusive thoughts lol. I’m not sure if you’ll even see this comment but food for thought! whether or not you end up going with a new therapist or not :) it definitely is a tough conversation though and sending you lots of encouragement and strength to speak up for what you want!!

I think you can continue doing DBT work self-guided and you can even reflect with your potential new therapist, despite her not being trained. The original DBT model was 2-3 hours a week skills group, plus weekly therapy and phone coaching, and it was created for people in chronic crisis and danger bc of bpd symptoms and who were unable to stay in (or benefit from) typical therapy. Just like not everyone needs that level of care, not everyone needs a fully trained dbt therapist in order to benefit from the skills and concepts. Also a self-validation module has been added to a lot of programmes, might be helpful (it's not in the actual skills book from what I remember).
