Then there is the method of World Cup soccer play itself. The matches themselves.
The rules in World Cup soccer matches are nearly similar to regular soccer matches. There are a lot of rules, but let me help you keenly on some of the deets:
1. Lightly dangerous actions or excessive minor illegal actions will result in a yellow card (a warning).
2. Very dangerous actions or intentionally injuring actions, as well as actions like inappropriately dissenting a ref or intentionally injuring a ref, can lead to a red card (which means the offending player is sent off the pitch--that is--ejected for the rest of the game).
3. Substitutions are strictly prohibited when replacing ejected player or players. You cannot do that! Any ejections of players means the team with the ejected players play shorthanded for the rest of the match.
4. Any player with a second yellow card past the knockout stage matches ends up banned from playing the next match.
5. Stoppage time is added on for injuries, goals scored (especially if it is a lot), substitutions, and official time-outs.
Stoppage time extends regulation time. For instance, if there is 8 minutes of stoppage time added to the 45 minute half, there will be a 53 minute half.
6. The half period of the match ends for sure when the ref sets off 3 or more straight whistle blasts in succession.
7. If a goal needs to be under review, the refs do it before the goal officially counts.
8. The match can end with a draw or tie, but in the later World Cup matches--it cannot be ending in a tie, so they decide the winner with a penalty-kick shootout, like they do in hockey (remember the famous penalty-kick shootout in World Cup Final 2006 between France and Italy? Italy won the shootout and won it all--the championship!).

Thank you for the video. S2 (7th Grade in the USA, we think) used this as a text to develop their Listening Level Three skills over the past week!

Additional fact:
Sure, you won't find clubs in the World Cup, that is because they have a World Cup of their own.
The FIFA Club World Cup was first organized in 2000 as an 8-team tournament, 2005-2006 as a 6-team one, 2007-2023 as a 7-team one, and 2025-present as a 32-team showdown.
In the 2005-23 format, teams that won one of the six continental club championships from each of the six confederations mentioned in the video (the UEFA Champions League for example), plus the national champion of the host country, battle in a playoff format, no group stages.
In the upcoming 2025 format, there are 32 teams, with its slots distributed across the confederations eerily similar to the one used in the 2022 FIFA World Cup (except for CONMEBOL getting 6 slots, the rest but one gets 4 slots, OFC gets one, no intercontinental play-offs.). Speaking of, the format is the same. 8 groups, 4 teams each, top two advance. The 2025 edition will be hosted on the East Coast of the United States from June 15 to July 13. Book your tickets now,

It's cute you placed the US as ending on top of their group with England in 2nd place lol. What's incredible is that England ended up with 7 points and the US with 5, same numbers you used but swapped. You were right about them being the two to go through, but that was fairly easily predictable.
As someone who knew how all this worked, I found your guide to be very nicely done and easily understandable for all the newbies out there. Tomorrow we'll know the last 4 to advance to the Round of 16 and it will be an interesting one! Can't believe teams like Belgium, Germany and Denmark are going home though.
P.S. Given the increase from 32 to 48 teams in 2026, Italy should have a higher change to qualify, though there will be more games to play :P

It’s phenomenal how you didn’t put any Arabic country on your qualified teams
Even if your video was made before the World Cup, but since it’s for education, it’s a bad thing

The problem with the US is that they go to the World Cup and play a different sport, they play Soccer while the rest of the world plays Football.

As a South American, I hope this can help somebody from US that doesn't understand football. When I got into baseball during the Tokyo Olympics, I had to watch countless games without understanding nothing before having a grasp on the game. Now I'm an avid follower of the MLB season. Great video :)

So, this is weird. If you bring out this video at this time, you have to at least mention the controversy. even if you don't intend to talk about it at all, this has to be mentioned otherwise you will, and pretty deservingly so, get shit about it.
