I should have found this video a year ago. Today, just today, I finished my first year of college and I moved in out of my dorm. And everything you said I relate to it all and so much that it was making me emotional. After traveling basically to another continent for almost 24 hours I came to the US for education. And as a 18 year old teenager with so much difference from language, culture, the jokes and even the toilet paper, I was sooo scared and anxious for first few days. After that I found this one person who was from the same country as me and I felt so relieved, truthfully speaking it felt like a sign a god sent to me that everything was gonna be fine. And just like you said in the podcast I clung onto the person so much that I forgot to really be out and like have more friends. Later she found someone better in the group and rarely hanged out with me. And now my first two semester have passed and I cannot find my people/my friend group with whom I can click with. That's making me little sad but frankly your videos have taught me more things , so I hope it will help me in this journey. Anyway at this point I'm fine doing things alone too.

These 8 pieces of advice will change your college experience.
My daughter, who is a junior in high school started her college tours last week. This video was so informative and insightful since I only went to a community college back in the day. My son went to us military Academy at West Point so that was a different experience. I will show this video to my daughter. Thank you, not only are you very knowledgeable in this topic but very funny too. I’m new to your channel.

I'm in Architecture. I wanna change my major badly but in my country this thing is not allowed.
Mel is sharing advice on:
What I plan to do is to send my son photos of those things he did before at home. TBH, when I saw one of his projects, I felt so proud of him again and immediately I took a photo of that item and sent to him and said, I m proud of this project. Share your true feelings with them is the key to keep them feeling connected.

Wish I heard this 2 years ago, but it all makes much more sense now and I’m ready for my next one who graduates in 2026. Also, thank you for touching on the sports. Nobody talks about how hard it is to be the parent of an athlete. The time, travel, expenses, injuries, their emotions, your emotions, etc. please do an episode related to sports both high school and college.

It’s funny how the topic of this conversation is about college students however as I listen to it, I thought to myself oh my gosh this also is great guidance for adult life. In adult life you can find yourself in places of transitions where you are now alone and you have very few to possibly no friends and you may be in a new state in a new town living completely on your own and at times finding yourself bored. How do you handle all this all of this…..all the recommendations you have given to me in my opinion absolutely apply and are helpful for adulting.🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

These advices are so VALUABLE I'm at the second year at university and I'm studying seriously so my GPA is high beside taking online and offline courses in my major so i think that I'm academically good .while for campus experiences I'm still trying to be more free and flexible but still can't get out of the doors and do what i want and need like DOING THINGS ALONE !!!
This is my big problem especially when i want to eat lunch or drink coffee without my friends i find it so hard and weird and the same thing with doing exercises or joining clubs but i learnt in this podcast that i need to deal with this without excuses.
My life is being more challenging but I'm on my way to be better I wish that everything goes well💕

@redrr40Hi I'm from Australia 🇦🇺 and most kids here just go to a university near their home, maybe on average one hours travelling each day. I don't understand why it's such a thing in the USA for kids to go away to college? Can someone please explain? 🙏 I do understand how hard it would be to see your kids leave home at that age. ❤
@SandraGamble-u9gI love Mel. It is kind of funny that it is obvious that she is very worried about her son and this episode is definitely aimed at Oakley. This is why I love her. She is very down to earth. Mel Robbins knows that her son does not want to be lectured so she's giving him advice vicariously through the podcast. I would do the same!
@Karmeon1982Oh Boy ! So much memory came back. I was so much serious and to much focus about doing all thing more than perfect and trying to look perfect too hahah ... Promise I keep your advises for the retirement house ;-)
@stephanerochon8169As a college professor, I intend to share this with my students...
I'll let you know how it goes...
What if no one moved you in , I did it for myself
@StoochyyIf I had teenage kids I would send them this video with the note: "She's right about all of it..."
@farrukhalavi5460You seem like an amazing mother! You’re an amazing mentor, I do know that.
@janettethompson1022You are doing too good keep it up 🩷
@RozeenaLalaniAre there any episodes that deal specifically with becoming empty nesters? My daughter who lives with us is 27 and ready to move out on her own. I’m missing her already and am not looking forward to it being just my husband and me. He feels the opposite and is eager to have the house to ourselves again.
@khayeswildrickThis is amazing advice Mel:)) Thanks so much 😊 I’m going to college next year! I’m really nervous and kinda stressed about the whole admission process and how things are going to be in my freshman year 😅 Good luck to everyone who’s navigating a new path in life ❤
@MiaN-j5zFirst year of college for me... at 36 lol SO EXCITED
@CranialExtractorI really appreciate all your videos, Mel🥰 but this was so special for me. Hugs from Brasil🤗
@carolinedamascena5322As much as I love the stuff Mel talks about, I could do without the personal family TMI. Tyvm.
@Snowlily01Peace snd blessings to you and your family! Thank you Mel for your advice and teachings! Have a wobderful day!
@Cricketchirps39I have a college freshman. Just shared this with her. So good! Sharing with some parents groups at her college as well. ❤
@kristen_kcbI just sent my two girls to college (Sr and Soph) Lots of smiles, lots of tears. I not only cried bc I'm so darn proud of them and exited for their new year, but I'm very sad for me. Sounds selfish, I know. I know in my heart they will never come back the same. My role in their lives has changed. Not better, not worse... just different.
@Docinprocess2323When Mel said: 'who knew everybody went to camp. What is this camp thing!?' I coudn't contain my laughter👍🏻😅I guess it summed up a feelig from the younger years when everything seemed to carry more weight. Worry about this and that. But it's like a training ground. Until we get a bit older and see: 'hey, life is waves!🌊 And most just do whatever they think is best, nobody really 'knows'. We can learn to at least not be afraid of the waves. 🤔Heck some of us get a surf board and learn to surf. 🏄🏽♀️🏄🏼♂️Or maybe just sit on the board happy to have peace and stay afloat, fine too.🧘🏼And some, oh some even learn to walk on the waves of life. (Like Jesus!🥰)
