I’m… a bit into middle age… was an adolescent and teenager in the 1980s.. and my father taught me many of these lessons. Given the era, we never had a skin care conversation, or a sexting conversation (though he would never have needed to, as my judgment was never that flawed).

My father was a Yalie, a naval officer, and an architect, so I got the majority of the lessons early on. Needless to say, he taught me to tie a tie, and also taught me to tie a bow tie at the age of 15.

Perhaps most importantly, decades before the phrase “no means no”, my father explicitly talked to me about how to be a gentleman with girls/women. That was virtually unheard of in that era, but such was the character of my father… an officer and a gentleman.
