Throughout history, the spotlight in art has often been focused on men, but many women have shaped the course of art in powerful and lasting ways. In this video, we take a closer look at six female artists whose work challenged conventions, made important contributions to modern and contemporary art, and changed how we see the world.
From abstract expression to quiet minimalism, each artist brought something unique to the language of art, often without receiving the recognition they deserved in their time.

All artists are unique in their work.
If I had to choose one work, it would be a painting by Agnes Martin. There is a book ("Writings" published in 1992) with her thoughts and an interview between her and Dieter Schwarz (the book should also be available in English) that touched me so deeply that her work still gets under my skin today.

I love Hilma af Klint, though I can't say I agree she had a hand in changing Art since she was only recently recognized. We can see the influences of the other women artists on today's contemporary art where I cannot find the same connections with af Klint. She was ahead of her time - I would've loved to see a throughline.
