I love antiques but recently tested everything in my house. Unfortunately so man things tested positive for lead. The most surprising thing was the paint on the flower sifter and Correlle dishes.

I was startled when you stopped to acknowledge the kids shouting in the street because I also live in an apartment in a city, and just assumed the noise was kids in my neighborhood shouting in the street!

If you wash dishes in the moment they never become unmanageable. For instance when cooking a meal- while I’m waiting for water to boil or something in the oven to cook, I’ll wash all the prep dishes and clean the counters. That way, after we eat there’s only a few plates, flatware and a pan or two to clean.

The first rule is the one I apply all the time, the prospect of applying the others anticipates peace in my mind.
Thank you for highlighting letting the bed air before making it, the body can go through a lot of temperature changes and sweating during the night so it makes so much sense to let it breathe. Like cleansing before making the bed, and the bed becoming the base of a tidy bedroom & home.
I also read in a Feng Shui book that having under the bed clutter-free is important for a good flow of energy in the space.

Hi Rajiv! I love the racks you use, very practical. What about shoes? I do indulge in allowing myself to set my most used pairs of shoes just outside the closet in my bedroom mostly for space considerations but also so that I can grab them and put them on in a pinch. What do you think about that?

I already do all of these, it’s just natural. I hate clutter, can’t contaminate anything from the outside with my clean stuff inside. I hate washing up and use a dishwasher. Everything goes in there. If it can’t go in a dishwasher it won’t be used and those countertops must be spotless before I go to bed.

@A-rollllI'm 85 and I know where everything is in my house. Everything has a home as you said. You can ask me for anything and I will know where it is. My house is not small either. It's all uncluttered and feels so great this way. I agree about the floor. I have friends who walk in the house and just drop things off on the floor that is impossible for me to do.
@lovdollsI hang up as many things as I can.... I don't find my clothing needs to be washed every time it's been worn but I don't like putting worn clothing back in the drawer or closet so I have a mesh basket for clothes on the go, but it does liive on the floor cause it's easiest to reach from bed, and I don't move that easily in the mornings. And I hate putting things away that I just have to get out again, so some things just live out. House rule is one sink has to be useable, the other can hold dishes until we have enough to run the dishwasher.
