"The Empire Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams score.

There’s a lot of stars in that galaxy. I know the Star Wars galaxy is supposed to be a spiral one like the Milky Way but it’d be stranger and cooler if it was an elliptical or lenticular galaxy instead.

This intro clip is one of the reasons why "The Empire Strikes Back" is arguably the best Star Wars movie, and beloved by Star Wars fans young and old. The John Williams score, special effects, acting and drama really draw you into the movie. Unlike some of the later versions, THIS version had the right combination of drama and comedy, and returning and new characters that added to the storyline. I'm writing this on May 4, 2026 and wish all Star Wars fans blessings and the Force be with you.

I can't even imagine how epic it must've looked back in 1980 on the big cinema screen... People had a taste of huge spaceships in space in some movies before, like 2001, Star Wars ANH, Alien and Star Trek TMP but this huge fleet was something new. And then the asteroid field scene... Gosh, the asteroid field not only still looks amazing to this day, but makes my head spin when I think of the amount of work they had to do to achieve it using analog film and optical printer...

Can you imagine seeing the Super Star Destroyer for the first time in theaters in 1980? The regular ones were already scarily massive, and now there's an even bigger one?

I love how they make it look like even other star destroyers are flying around just appreciating it lol

By promoting Captain Peitt, who standing right next to the person (Admiral Ozzel) he just executed, Vader sent a clear signal: “Your predecessor failed because he was too rigid. You are now in charge. Do not make the same mistake.”

A lot of weight must of been felt on Peitt's shoulders in that moment.

Just imagine if Thrawn got the probe droid report. The rebels hiding on a remote planet would have made perfect sense to him because the rebels focus on Guerrilla warfare with hit and fade tactics and go into hiding until the dust settled and a remote planet would technically be the last place the Empire would look for a base. He would also take into account that since the report was a fragmented that there was a high chance that the rebels know they’ve been found and that it was a race against time.

Imagine going to ESB opening day in 1980 and being like "I wonder what those danged Imperials are up to after Star Wars" and seeing this

Admiral Ozzel likely did not take the attack preparation seriously because he felt certain of his own deductions. He probably wanted to show up Vader and Piette.

In the context of Vader being Vader, it makes sense why he killed Ozzel.
Needa was killed because he seriously fouled up the capture of the Millennium Falcon.
Piette was given clemency likely because his oversight was not such an obvious one. He was simply outplayed but did everything as ordered.

... this movie is 45 years old. How is it possible to make something this good and this modern. Nothing made today will stand up 45 years from now.
