About Mayim Bialik:

You might know me as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory or from Blossom but there are so many other parts of me that you might not be aware of! I’m trained as a neuroscientist, I'm a passionate activist, an observant Jew, a perfectly imperfect mother, and I'm a complicated human being like many of you. This is the place where I wear all of those hats - and none of them have a flower on them! ;)

I LOVE this but currently I’m struggling to get OFF my phone at home since out it usually easier (there are more stimuli). At home, every option I have is either a chore or a must like studying, and that is when my phone is the perfect distraction

You can't act like this anymore like it was back in the day because people don't respond that way. Your fans are always expecting you to have your phone in Your pocket and on you , twenty four hours a day , that's the problem. Tricep your phone down and going to a park or taking a walk. What I do is I put all my icons , all my apps all in one area.

So basically ...
Get a real alarm clock.
Only use your phone for text / phone calls or that App you need for work.
Then switch the thing off, or put it in a box till that time you need to do the work thing.
Use a notebook & pen :)
GONNA DO THIS !

I’m going to Walmart today to put my phone in that ECO machine thing.. I’ll get $44 for it I’m so done with the phone and social media.. I was from that same generation I am 49 years old and realized I enjoyed living more with no cell phones.. now I’m ready to call it quits.. so I finally made up my mind to end the life of my phone instead…

Soooo the way you stopped was just by… stopping? I’m sorry but how is any of that helpful? Ofc, not reaching for your phone in the morning is great. The problem is I can’t help it. It feels like you’re not really addicted, if you were able to “just stop” doing all those things. Meanwhile if anyone has actual advice on how to defeat their addiction I’m all for it

I had the same. But I ended this JUST TODAY and checked, if anyone has done the same!

:)

But as a Christian I know that a lot of this stuff is spiritual. So I just casted out a demon of addiction of the smart phone in the name of Jesus Christ. And it left!
Halleluuja!

I really appreciate this video. I am exhausted from all the texting, emailing, websites, passwords, data breaches, and just the general state of the world is overwhelming. I long for a simpler time. Maybe those of us who lived before cell phones feel this more than those who didnt. We see the difference and how we feel. Ironically I feel less connected now and more depressed than before all this "technology."

We often overlook the role of "tactile feedback" in phone usage. The physical sensation of swiping on glass has become a self-soothing mechanism, similar to a pacifier. When you try to break the habit, your hands literally don't know what to do with themselves. Replacing the phone with a physical object, like a notepad or a textured stone, can short-circuit this somatic craving. Breaking the mental loop is only half the battle.

Have you ever reached into your pocket to check your phone when it wasn't even there?

I wrote a free 48-hour reset guide on exactly this — find it in my bio if you're dealing with this right now.

I love utilizing screen time settings. I set social media apps to 3hrs per day, as a start to wean myself down to like an hour a day. I've also started getting back into games that I enjoy. Sure, it doesn't always limit my overall screen time playing on my switch- but at least it's a start away from my phone so I can then move on to limiting my screen time in general. I've also turned back to some of my old "granny" hobbies. I'll listen to an audiobook while I lay on the floor and pet my bunny, clean the apartment, tend to my plants, cook/bake/meal prep, crochet, do a paint by number or diamond art kit, or I'll ditch the audiobook and read with my cat on the balcony and play a board or card game with my partner. Anytime I hear someone say "I don't have time for [fill in the blank]", I immediately respond with telling them to check their screen time and app usage. More often than not they're well over 8hrs per day of phone use. So they indeed have the time, they're just slave to their phone during it.
