The original warcraft rts, was actually the Lord of the rings rts... About a 1/4 into development they lost the License, and Warcraft was born. So the Tolkien references go way far deeper than Metzen just liking the name. I mean just look at the units in warcraft 1. The mages photo is Gandalf. The daemon sprite is the balrog.. so on and so forth.

Dragon isles got their own expansion nowadays lol its nice that a deep dive would let you know about future updates n expansions to the game

I doubt the devs care or think that deep on what they name and make characters do...

one small correction "attacking the darkness" is from the chik track where he tried to demonize dnd and say it was Satan worshiping basically. John Tron did a video about the movie that was made for it.

The fact that they introduced undead as a playable race was the biggest mistake. Doesn't make sense from a lore perspective either. the horde should have had goblins instead of undead
