I mean, it's right but does it really matter? Credit scores don't really matter until you need to borrow money. Just don't apply for new credit cards a year before you buy a house. New credit inquiries stay on your report for two years but the impact is mostly gone after the first six months.

I paid off all my credit cards and the credit agencies reported all $0 balances. Well my credi scores dropped an average of 12 points that month and there were no other changes to my report. Since then I allow 1-3% utilization to report and my scores are steadily increasing.

I don't agree with your 4th point about paying a portion before the balance due date and the remainder after the balance due date. This could be construed by the banks to be credit cycling which could lead to a closure of the accounts.

I agree fully with all of these tips, with the exception of #3. Since "credit scores", were never designed to report a person's responsible financial behavior but, instead were designed to help leaders know that, you will not default on the money they lend to you and that, they can make a lot (in interest payments) off of you over time. However, I do agree every credit card does not need to have a carry over balance. and also any amount carried over from month-to-month should be very low. (smile ... smile)

I had a Citi Costco Visa since they were American Express. I moved away from a Costco, so maintaining it was basically an annual fee of Costco membership that I hadn't used for a couple of years. so, after cancelling the Costco membership, Citi eventually cancelled the card. The credit impact was pretty small with this one. Oddly enough, the closed Costco AmEx account was still reporting to my credit until recently, that dropping off actually had more of an impact, but still not major.

🎬 CHAPTERS

My foray into credit cards as an 18-19 year old was that they were great for making large purchases when you didn’t have enough money for the whole thing. I didn’t learn the proper way to use credit cards until my late 20s and now I’m in my 30s working on fixing those mistakes and bad habits
