Craft sickos where you at!!! What's your fav niche craft/art form?

FARSEER TRILOGY MENTIONED!!!! I’ve been working my way through Robin Hobb’s book for the past couple years and love them dearly. I think the secret to wearing hats (or any cool “unusual” fashion pieces), is to find something you really love the look of, and be intentional about finding times to wear it, because once you wear something, it becomes a little less usual, but also when it’s something you love the look of, you get to have that giddy feeling remembering you’re wearing a really cool hat or belt or pair of pants.

This was a really fun video to embroider to, and there were several crafts I jotted down. The metal clay looked soooo cool!!

Lampshade making is a good one. Its pretty diverse in skill and not too expensive, depending on where you source your supplies. lampshade frames are cost hefty so I thrift old lampshades and strip them bare. You can hand sew directly onto the frame (tutorials can show you how) or use a sewing machine.

There are mini lampshades you can find if you don't want to do a giant one and you can recycle trims off other thrifted items like pillows, blankets, other lampshades, or clothing. I love making intricate ones where each panel is something different, prints on every other panel, like paintings. you can embroider existing lampshades, use machine embroidery if making one from scratch, sew beads on, make a quilt design, press flowers on, etc. one thing I really want to try is layering panels. using white on the outside and a printed design inside, so when the light turns on, the design is revealed.

lots of potential for extreme uniqueness. Its a crafting multitool, you can apply a lot of skillsets to it.

The only thing to watch out for, make sure you hold up your fabric to a light and make sure it scatters it well, some fabrics don't look great when backlit. Also, try to avoid making something highly flammable and avoiding hot lights.

I'd been wanting to learn millinery for a very long time and finally got the chance a few years back to begin classes. The materials are vast. You can sculpt and create ao many things.
I also just began learning nalbinding which I love. I was terrible at knit or crochet. 😂

I'm the type of crafter who loves making things but really hates owning things. Clutter stresses me out and so making little things always brings me so much joy but ultimately leaves me freaked out about the fact that I have a new object that takes up space. I'd love practical craft ideas for scarcity mindset anti-hoarder crafters like me if anyone has any lol

It's not illegal to turn currency into art, however it is very illegal to modify them to change their value as currency. So for example I can't use my craft knowledge to make a nickel look like a quarter. I can however turn quarters or other coins into art, see the popular coin presses in American museums. Technically it's changing the coin, but it's not meant to be a coin anymore, it's art now.

Here’s a piece of knowledge I picked up carving rubber stamps!

I buy my rubber at hobby lobby and they usually have two colors you can buy: pink and blue. Blue is a softer material which you would think would make it easier to carve and like me you would be a fool. It likes to disintegrate around the edges and you get all these little crumbs and it’s almost impossible to get the fine details cleanly. Get the pink rubber pad, it’s easy and satisfying to carve and it won’t fall apart. Also carving into erasers is way closer to carving pink rubber than blue so I honestly haven’t figured out why they make it. In my experience white and pink erasers both work fine.

Making things with cardboard and hot glue was a fun project I did with my kiddo. We made a big castle with a functional drawbridge and a slide for her dragon eggs to land into their nest.

I got a projector for my bedroom! Got a decently nice one, ran me $250. Its literally changes the vibe of my room entirely, I couldn't recommend it enough. I like to put on a background of glowing stars or sometimes HD jellyfish lol.

11:44 Defacing money to commit fraud is what’s illegal. You cant scribble two zeros on a dollar bill and try to pass it off as a $100 banknote. But you CAN carve a sick skull on a quarter and tell the nerds to kick rocks.

Whenever I feel inspired to do some art, I look at these types of videos and remember how much money and time goes into it.
