You missed going fishing off the cost in the gulf. Red Fish, Shark, and some of the largest grouper. Also missed the Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo Texas. The play Texas is there. It's the 2nd largest canyon after the Grand Canyon. While your in the area check out Cadillac Ranch. You missed XIT Rodeo. Also tubing down one of our many rivers with your friends and drinking at one one of the many float up I've houses. It's a Texas summer tradition for college students every year. Do not bring the kids. Topless girls are abundant. Floating beer in a cooler as payment like beads at Marti gras.

You mentioned more about South Oklahoma than you did Texas. Really not one single thing from Houston?

I take exception to your post about Odessa Permian, and Friday Night Lights. That Book/Movie could have been about any high School in the State of Texas, and other states as well.
I say this, because I grew up, and played football in a town no different than Odessa. We defeated Permian in the playoffs my Jr. year.
Think of the movie "Varsity Blues", and that was not too far off from my Hometown.
High School Football is a religion in almost every town in TX, and I'm sure in other states as well. It's not just Odessa.

The San Antonio Mission Trail is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that shouldn't be missed. Also, the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis is a WOW, especially if you go to one of their star parties. It's so dark out there that you can see everything, either with your naked eye, or with one of their telescopes. While you're out there, go to San Solomon Springs in Balmorrhea, a beautiful spring-fed swimming area.

I lived in el paso tx .. if you didn't have nothing to do you can sit by the river and watch Mexican float over to El paso Sunday to work the float back to Mexico.. when you go in town little kids comes from Mexico & sells candy or will wash your windshield for money .. they have no sewage there and the stink plows over to El paso.. when I lived in el paso you could walk over to Mexico no passport needed then .. Benny's liquid store in Mexico you can get a 1/5 of whiskey or rum for $5.00 but had to pay 25 cent to talk it back to el paso ..

A couple notes about Schlitterbahn - they also have a location in Galveston, even if the New Braunfels one is the original. I've never been to the New Braunfels location, but I have been to the Galveston one.
The tragic accident was actually at the former Kansas City location, which was closed and demolished a few years after the accident when the company was sold to Cedar Fair and they chose not to purchase the Kansas City location due to the accident. There also was a Corpus Christi location which was demolished the same year as the Kansas City location, and a South Padre Island location which is still in operation under a different name, as the original family who owned the company retained that park when they sold the company to Cedar Fair.

I was raised and educated in Sugar Land and the only county fair I'd been to was the Fort Bend County Fair. But now I live in Taiwan and I sure do miss the wide open spaces of Texas. I miss visiting Galveston Beach, The River Walk in San Antonio, and taking a road trip all the way to El Paso. I miss the Texan and Tejano culture I grew up with.
