3 Visa Ideas - How To Get to France

Video Overview & Insights

How to get a visa for France that might actually help you stick around (although there are never any guarantees). Here's a link to the TAPIF page for the curious: https://frenchhighereducation.org/teaching-assistant-program As for masters programs, you're on your own (and you'll need to check with your local consulate about long stay tourist visas). Grab a copy of my guide to Paris at https://parisinmypocket.com/ and help me make better videos at http://patreon.com/jayswanson then find me on the internet in all of the usual spots:

Well after a master in France, It's extremely difficult to get a english speaking job. The main reason, current market situation, language, visa sponsorship, etc.
It's a good path for a master in France but alot of peoples are struggling to find a job.

My wife and I are in the process of applying for a long-stay visa and retired in France. Our source of income is our Social Security and pensions, but we would like to work remotely to earn extra income from a United States company and not a French company with that being violation of our visa.

Jay, what are some good schools to enroll in to learn French? I'd prefer not to live in Paris. Are there other parts of France that you'd recommend as an American?

My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

OMG! Please tell me where you got your dog carrier/backpack! My dog so wants to come places on my bike!

FAQ:

What is the age limit for the masters program?

— @StylewithaSoundtrack

How long have you lived in France? Over four years now, holy cow.

What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS

Do you have to be a native-born speaker for TAPIF? Or is fluency enough?

— @StylewithaSoundtrack

You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: https://youtu.be/-MrvL37jTKM

Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).

I was in France for 7 months doing my Masters, however, I returned home to do my end of study internship because of my young son.... I do want to move back to France with him though... I just don't know how to go about it. I have to return next year for grad... hoping that we can stay legally then.

— @derian9273

What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: http://bit.ly/JaysGearList

What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.

I can get Italian Citizenship through my ancestry but the documentation is a hassle to assemble and lawyers who can help with the process are quite expensive. Eventually I'll get it, it would let me work anywhere in the EU. Is Paris a good market for a golf course superintendent??🤣

— @davidnolan9856

Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.

Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: https://youtu.be/4Vivf6MqMxQ

If anybody finds it useful, there is also a PVT (Programme Vacances travail) that gives you a work visa for one year for a handful of countries (My country of Peru included). It lasts for 1 year, and you can work any number of hours that you want and in whatever field, however they do not help you find the job and if you don't already speak French obviously it's going to be harder, but that's what I did and here I am in France for at least 1 year! I plan to work as much as I can and save money to pursue other visa options in the future, so there is another option that maybe you didn't mention in the video, if anybody finds it useful then great!

— @pierocornejo5647

Do you speak French? - Oui. https://youtu.be/va1QjaHgij8

Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

Wish you elaborated or didn’t say anything about the marriage option. I’ve been common law with my partner for 6 years and we are moving to fence in a year. I don’t see why the marriage option won’t work (eventually) ? As well any special tips for someone 36 and older who dosnt have / won’t have secondary school options?

— @frank3l

I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: http://patreon.com/jayswanson

I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): https://ko-fi.com/jayswanson

Hi Jay! Any thoughts on where is the best place (in-person or online) to learn about ALL visa options? Some seem a bit obscure (& not readily found or known) but an option, nonetheless.

— @designingdakini

But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.

Thanks for watching!

Hi Jay, I am a 45 year old Indian classical dancer. I want to move to Paris in a few months on a long stay tourist visa and then a year down the road, convert to a talent visa… so I can teach and perform in Paris. I worry about being able to find a space to practice my dance in Paris everyday ..,I normally practice for 3-4 hours everyday… as space is so limited in Paris and expensive to rent. I tried looking online for dance studios for rent … but it’s not very clear. So do you suggest that I just take the chance … come to Paris and then try and figure it out… as things are much easier once I am there ?

I want to move to France next year via the long-stay tourist visa, stay a full. year. My current snag is figuring out housing. I'm fortunate that I know someone in Marseille to help me scout spots (make sure they match the pictures online, etc) BUT I'm unsure if I need a year-long lease/rental agreement or can I just do some kind of Airbnb situation? What is the minimum needed to satisfy the visa forms so it doesn't get rejected?

I used to take the night train from Amsterdam to Basel, then across Switzerland to Lausanne to visit a friend, then through France to Paris for a couple of days before returning to Amsterdam. One night there was a fight in the lobby of the little Right Bank hotel I always stayed in. Had a cognac with the concierge who won the fight. Good times.

The best thing we have found for our Beagle to play with are dog toys with no stuffing in them, don't win on the cute scale but she can tear them open and the only thing inside is a squeaker.

In order for me to get a Masters, I'd have to have a bachelor's first! & I don't think that exists in hairstyling lol

Ah the famous flatulent flat-faced dogs. 🫠We found that with our Boxer, Boston, and Frenchton, diet is key. On kibble, being in the car with them would make your eyes seriously cry. Raw isn’t always an option for everyone due to cost and capacity to keep it frozen or refrigerated, but it was a huge deal in making our dogs easier to live with. But, good quality food will seriously make a difference. I’ve heard it has to do with how much air they take in when breathing, eating, and drinking. So the less added to their diet that additionally introduces more gas and intestinal disruption, the better. Or you just let him be the go-to whenever someone smelt it but claims they didn’t dealt it 🤭

When I got my Masters in the US the first thing I did was write a paper quoting Lacan in the original French without the buffer of a translation.

Everyone that has gotten a visa and that is in another country what they're forgetting to tell people is that have to have a savings to be able to take care of yourself once you get to that country.

Oh god! I'm glad I decided to go to Korea instead of France to teach, that pay sounds horrible. We worked 35-40 hours a week though but we got bonuses and housing taken care of in Korea. Actually, now that I think of it, at the time, I was too old for the French program when I was looking into it and they only raised the age to 35 like a year after I turned 35, 😂😂. Also the French teaching program you can only do for 2 years max while the Korean one doesn't exactly have a year limit, I did it for 5 years but I met some who did it for 10 years. As for France, I got slightly lucky and got in on a family/private life visa, there's a butt ton of stuff you have to do for the immigration office the first year, but it's one of the better ones, though unless you've got a French spouse/partner, it's not just one you can ask for, lol. And hey!!! I didn't get married to a French person for a visa to come to France 😂😂😂😂😂😂 they just happen to be French and we decided as a family that it would be better if we settled here (moving the US just didn't look that appealing and still doesn't). I didn't even meet my spouse in France, nor did I get married in France 😂😂😂, nor did I ever dream of living here, lol. Actually it's better that we didn't meet nor marry here, I hear that's when there's problems because a French person that's never lived abroad then marries a foreigner is a big stick in the mud that can never compromise, lol, at least that's the feeling I get

@aeolia80

LOL try changing his food. Sometimes the food doesn't agree with the dog and makes them gassy. When we first adopted Ruby she was eating whatever the shelter was giving her. I changed her food to something that's a bit higher quality and the toots went away!! Now she only toots when she has to poo 🤣
Also certain dog "treats" make her really gassy too so I tend to avoid them. The cheese sticks probably don't help. Have you tried giving him veggies? Ruby LOVES carrots. They are very crunchy and I can shove them in her kong... No toots!
Meat bones and too many pig ears make her very stinky 🤢

As far as the marriage visa thing goes- are you saying that it never works out if someone gets married FOR THE SAKE of getting a visa? Or are you saying the visa doesnt work out even if you actually have a an actual relationship? (I'm currently in a relationship with a French citizen).

My 2 dogs also manage to get the stuffing out of their toys as well, the ‘injured’ toys get put on the top shelf of a bookcase know as ‘the hospital shelf’ where they eventually get fixed 😂

I’m a truck driver here in the uk, I work for a french company and few years ago transferring would be a doddle. It sucks that’s brexit has now made it near impossible to move into France or anywhere else in Europe. Enjoy France and Paris as long as you can Jay. Love the videos 🇫🇷
