Safety is the most important aspect including petty crimes so no Americas or (western) Europe at all as they are plagued by crimes. And yes, I travel quite a fair bit myself to make this statement.

My wife and I spent a month in Panama. My wife is Filipino so I thought she would like it. Honestly neither one of us thought much about it. Donโt get me wrong we enjoyed our time there but it just wasnโt that special in our view. I didnโt see any real bargains and was disappointed that English wasnโt more widely spoken. Honestly I preferred Costa Rica over Panama. I would and should visit Portugal. In viewing the video on YouTube it is calling me!

The rate of exchange will take 20% of your retirement income. When I moved to Spain I did not take that into consideration nor how at the time Spain was really being promoted. Now after all the hipe about Portugal prices are going up and the Spanish and Portuguese people are not as welcoming . Was itworth it....Yes!

Are these the closest things to retirement perfection?
In this video, we reveal 3 Near-Perfect Countries for Retirees looking to retire abroad in 2026. While no country is truly perfect, these destinations come remarkably close by offering the qualities that matter most to retirees: affordability, safety, stability, excellent healthcare, welcoming residency options, natural beauty, and a high quality of life.
sooo many people talking about that vera hart archetype quiz its crazy, lol. Tried it myself and the results are quite promising!
We begin in Panama, one of Latin America's most popular retirement destinations, known for its retiree benefits, modern infrastructure, and easy access to the United States.
Next, we explore Portugal, a European favorite offering beautiful cities, charming villages, excellent healthcare, safety, and an enviable lifestyle that continues to attract retirees from around the world.
To expensive
And finally, we reveal our top pick: Uruguay. Often overlooked by Americans, Uruguay offers political stability, low corruption, beautiful beaches, excellent healthcare, straightforward residency options, and one of the highest qualities of life in Latin America.
If you're researching the best countries to retire abroad, best places to retire on Social Security, affordable retirement destinations, expat living, overseas retirement, healthcare abroad, residency options, and where your retirement dollars can go further, this video is for you.

Uruguay sounds interesting but I read a recent study where expats were surveyed in the top eight destination countries. They were asked how their experience, including cost of living, ease of assimilation, loneliness, happiness etc. compared to what they expected or were led to believe. Only one country came out ahead where the expectations in most cases were better than expected. Columbia.

I'd prefer Portugal of the three ones presented.๐
@MarkusHJordiA decade ago I spent a lot of time in Uruguay and the crime was very high. My best friend had barbed wire on her roof, as was the case with all of her neighbors. We had to be always aware of our surroundings. As for Punta, it is exceptionally, but hardly Monaco. But, in all, it is splendid and friendly.
@jimsack1India is best ๐
@Butturaja-gangsterHaha, i live in Vambodia for half those prices, easier visa, no income reqirement. Cheap Golden visa program. Young population, great islands and beaches.
@geoffmcintosh3Can't hear the name Panama without the Van Halen song starting in my head.
@timh5459Great video, I've been thinking about Thailand and Portugal where the former wins on weather and the latter on the lifestyle. Panama is a great idea to explore, especially considering they have good diving destinations to keep myself busy
@Flipping_pandaPortugal? Taxes. Cost of housing. Would have agreed when the NHR programme was active - not now. There are much better options in Europe than Portugal.
@rbowler88Good overview. Would have been nice to also include some cons which makes them 'near perfect' not perfect. For example, not sure how much of a language barrier you may have in Uruguay, if you don't know Spanish (of course, one should learn, but it takes time!). This becomes especially important for healthcare. Although each country has its own cuisine, I think some of these places are less diverse in that respect, if you are coming from a good size US city.
@APeeKayLay off with the dumbnutz "Stick around till the end" announcement. If you keep my attention I stick around. It's so fkng stoopid you think that guru advice works.
@realpsychvaultBeen to Lisbon the place looked pretty ragged and the people were pissed off and angry. I had a friend who moved there with his wife and they were planning on leaving. They said everything is cheaply built and you can hear someone on the first floor flush the toilet. Maybr Oporto is nice but we moved to Spain and found it far nicer.
@dylanalliata4809Appreciate the info and presentation. My confusion after watching hundreds of these kinds of videos is about taxation. Iโm under the impression that Portugal, for instance, now charges as much as 48% tax on pension income. Obviously, that would be a huge consideration for those of us who are considering leaving the US for overseas retirement. It would be great if these kinds of videos had more specifics about this subject. Thanks.
@dh3279Have you or any of your colleagues actually retired to any of these countries? Have any of you at least lived there long term? Things have changed considerably in Portugal and people are leaving in droves. Last question, where did you eventually settle and why did you pick that country?
@gregalonzo9504Did you consider any of the countries in Asia?
@andrewtoh2990For Americans not Canadians. Panamaโs currency is based on U.S. $ which kills the Canadian $
@donnalcolangeloWe are British and moved to Cyprus for our retirement , best decision we've ever made .
As you say no country is perfect but Cyprus has sunshine all year round , very low crime rates , no traffic jams , no homeless people on the streets , and we're only 10 minutes from the beach .
We own our house and run 2 cars and get by with no problems whatsoever with my pension which is around 1500 euros a month .
Panama is very anti-gay, however. If you are LGBTQ, you'll want to study their laws carefully. There are no LGBTQ protections or recognition of same-sex couples.
@thomaswinstonmorganWhy would you leave your country USA to go to different countries all over the world??? You do not have the money to live on the STATES,
Now you go around the world to retire
And the funny story
You as Americans you have always looked down on all these people and their countries
I have a friend (from N. Carolina) who chose Boquete, Panama, and she and her husband are very happy there. For me, the retiree discounts are impressive. My husband and I chose Europe - Nazare, Portugal, which he actually mentions. It's been the best thing we ever did. We've been here 4 years. The Portuguese people are a kind people. It's near perfect now, but the laws may change so that not so many people can move here in the future.
@Nesit1234Did he say Portugal has an entrance fee of at least $11,000? That popped up on the screen. These places are really appealing but still over my budget. I only get $1200 a month on SSDI.
@MeandmymirrorAs a Canadian, I'm retiring HERE in about 10 years, but I'm going to have a VERY CHEAP AND SMALL condo where I stay 183 days out of every year, and a very cheap, but beautiful place in a hot place for the other 182 days.
JUST so I get to keep my FULL pension, benefits, and my Universal Healthcare... Being born Canadian is a GIFT that life gave me.
weather is not really good at every place.
@WorldWithWalkerThere is difference between a nice place to vacation and a nice place to live. The ONLY conceivable option is Portugal - and it is NOT cheap.
@WeekendWisdomBut remember... wherever you go, you will always bring yourself with you.... I guess that's the hardest part..
@tedvgaNo thanks
@sussannekeith5676What's a pension said every young person ever. Spoiled boomers.
