Just because you’re near Florida, it’s not an easy trip to Key West by car. At the AL border on I-10 it’s 800 miles plus, from GA border on I-95 is about 530+ miles. As a life long FL resident, there are plenty of nicer beach towns on both coasts of FL a lot closer.

@michmat77I will mention a little shop called Denny's Discount Liquors in Key Largo, around mile marker 99 or 100, which has an absolutely huge selection and is the quintessential keys liquor store. Just next door is a little diner called Doc's diner, which has a mural painted in the early 1980s, and has really solid diner food and great prices for the keys. Decent stopping place if you are making the drive south to Key West. I may be a bit biased since the 2 year old me is featured in the mural, lol.
An additional thing about the Keys is that since they are all on the overseas highway, many times the mile marker is the directions on how to find a place.
