25 Absurd Random History Facts - Part 4

Video Overview & Insights

We're back with 25 more history 'facts' that highlight the randomness of the world... at least without much context.

This brings the total up to 100, a nice satisfying number.

Welcome to our history channel, run by those with a real passion for history & that's kind of it.

I came here for fun facts but left with existential questions. Why did no one tell me history was this weird?

After the Christmas truce, the soldiers did not go back to shooting each other - they couldn’t engage in combat with people they had just spent time with in a jovial manner.

So they were all shipped back to England and, to fill the gaps, conscription was introduced. It was these soldiers (mostly very young) who restarted the combat

@11:25 in the United States a lot of the unexploded ordinances they find are leftovers from the civil war. Most of which are the first first generation of grenades as well as exploding cannonballs. They are found a lot more often than you would imagine especially when magnet fishing which myself and a group of people have actually found three grenades in a Creek in Louisiana that were from the civil war. And that triggered a set of events that ended up with an ambulance probably a dozen police officers and a bomb squad from 200 mi away coming out to This Little Creek to explode these grenades after they were away at a safe distance.

to # 14 - I heard a story that there was a US bomber plane that crashed somewhere in Georgia or North Carolina while carrying two real nuclear bombs ... and the US military only ever found one ... and on that one 3 out of 4 security features to prevent accidental explosion had been destroyed in the crash

The surrender of Robert E. Lee to Ulysses S. Grant was between two generals not government officials, the Confederate congress never surrendered to the Union congress nor did Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Union President Abraham Lincoln sign a formal peace treaty so technically the American Civil War is still on going and the states of Virginia,North Carolina,South Carolina,Tennessee,Georgia,Florida,Alabama,Mississippi,Arkansas,Louisiana and Texas are just under Union occupation for the past nearly 160 years

Julius Caesar did not crucify the Silesian Pirates, He had their throats cut, then displayed them as if they were crucified. Caesar was appalled by crucifixion, and considered it too brutal, even for these pirates. -edit spelling

If I have a say. I prefer to see a picture while you talk. That way I can spend more time looking at the picture and focus on it rather than on your environment.

Pronunciation: your pronunciation is more accurate than you may believe. There are rules for pronunciation that few people are aware of but you are following them fairly well compensating for differences in accent. This occurs mainly in the pronunciation of vowels and syllable stress that affects rhythm and cadence.

Here's one, but I classify it as sad but also inspiring: after the death of his wife and daughter, Neil Peart, drummer for the Canadian progressive rock band Rush, told bandmates Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee "consider me retired" at his wife's funeral. After this, he went on a long sabbatical to mourn and reflect. In this sabbatical, he traveled extensively throughout North and Central America, covering 88,000km, or 55,000mil. After the journey, Peart returned to the band and wrote a book about his journey.

Highly unlikely the British and German troops would have played a football match with their helmets on…… in 1914 German troops still wore the picklehaube (spiked helmet). They would have gone through a few footballs😊
