I think it's incorrect to say:
"What DO you do last night?" Cuz last night is in past
The correct way is:
"What DID you do last night?"

In your examples of Torn Vs. Broken, it would be much more better if you refer to the intangible things like heart and feelings, example "broken heart" or "I feel torn between two choices".
