Ever wonder how a woman can survive the worst kind of heartbreak… and somehow find love (and herself) on the other side?
I don't agree with not having friends being a red flag. You may just be done with fake people. He must not see all the fake people out there. You get tired of the acting from people and prefer to be alone.
Today’s episode goes all-in on the messy, life-changing reality of toxic relationships, narcissistic abuse, and the epic journey back to peace, self-worth, and genuine connection. You’ll hear the TRUTH about why smart women get stuck, the science behind walking away, and the game-changing mindset shifts that unlock real love (whether or not it’s with another person).
My guest is master relationship coach Matthew Hussey, who’s spent 18 years helping millions of women rebuild after betrayal, decode the real signals of a good partner, and reclaim the confidence to trust again.
34:18 This is why even friendships may not be sought after DV.
Why must women be required to perform friendship after being mauled by a man, a husband, having her children destroyed, being physically harmed, then shamed for leaving and not peovided with support for escape.
We are not required to perform friendship. For anyone.
Here’s exactly what we dive into:
- Why we fall for love-bombers, and how to protect your heart without shutting down
A bit off topic, but I would so appreciate to know what your arm exercises routine is? Especially regarding triceps ? 😘thank you much lyft for all your videos/posts❤
- Why so many women go “voluntarily celibate” (and what it really means)
- The four types of heartbreak no one talks about—and why some wounds never heal on their own
I cried, so : 🙏🙏✨️✨️💕💕
- Why it’s NEVER too late to start over, trust again, or fall in love (with anyone, including yourself)

As someone who had a 2 year crush on someone who didn't like me back.. I can say that yes, it's very painful and heartbreaking to come to that realization that it's never going to happen, and he was never really interested after all. I was reading into his hot and cold behavior too much. I had to grieve all of the time I wasted obsessing over him.

Dated someone for two years (at the lowest point of my life), he definitely kicked me while I was down and made my life literally hell and then he ghosted me and is now dating my boss. I literally don’t know how I’m going to move on when he’s integrated himself into all aspects of my life and he’s thriving and I just feel like I’m dying

I'm New to this channel, and just curious: Are these videos made from AI? The host has the same exact hairstyle on every single video and she doesn't seem real. Like, she reactions and everything don't seem genuine at all. 🤔

I’m 37 and I’ve decided to be done. I “one more shot!”ed for probably 5+ more years than I should have. I’m more than aware I’m the common denominator, but each abuse leveraged that.. even screaming “no wonder everyone has hit you !!!!!” and not only can I not do it anymore: I don’t want to. And strangely, although it’s sad, there’s liberation in there.

Matthew Hussey is really compassionate. I felt a lot of comfort listening to him, especially when he explained the part about giving up on romance altogether due to huge and terrible heartbreak. I was told that there is a new name for us - VOL -CEL. Voluntarily Celibates. It's so not funny that all you can do in laugh😂😂😂. Lisa, I have a lot of respect for you and for all you've done. I am so proud to be part of your community. Doubtful that I will ever find love now but I am glad I feel understood and I can at least wish others the very best in their pursuit. ❤

Sweet little Lisa, why are you so judgy of your mother-in-law? Clearly you have never gotten royally screwed like she did. Not everyone is going to triumph like your mum. Have a little compassion, girl!

Abuse can cause PTSD but the lack of support and the ongoing judgement from friends is what determines how bad it will be.

"The heart dies a slow death, shedding each hope like leaves until one day there are none. No hopes. Nothing remains." - Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha
I feel my leaves shedding...
I can only hope, new buds will grow in the future eventually.
You are so much better off on your own that how you find yourself i met a man 30 years ago and he was so Evil to me try to kill me I got out and saved my own life never again I am happy with my life now I am aware of men and their tricks
@PaulineannFaganLisa is such cute lady😊
@TitunkaLove when Matt Hussey says: "And the moment we break away from one of these relationships, it is a miracle." // Ask the Messiah to be your Savior-- ...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of Elohim/ALaHYM (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of Elohim/ALaHYM is Everlasting Life in Messiah Yahushua/Yahushgh/Jesus our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh/Jesus and believe in your heart that Elohim/ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2).
@BNUSHGh777I'd love to see you interview Laura Doyle one day, if possible. I'm just reading her book "The empowered wife" about relationships, and how to talk to men / husbands to bring the spark back and reconnect. Maybe there's a way to fix those miserable relationships.
Thank you for your wonderful work 🥰
Lisa do you think Gisèle Pelicot would come on and talk with you?
@JoAnnPokornyWow , love you lisa ❤ amazing podcast
@ajmurphy06Thank you for this episode. I’ve been battling this for over 7 years going back and forth believing all of the things he says. Blaming me, making me feel guilty for trying to leave. Him telling me that I’m abusing him and that he’s hurt because of me. Even though he’s the one emotionally messing with my head, and physical force, turning me into a crazy person who doesn’t know what’s real anymore. All while he claims to be a victim.
Thank you for this.
Physical abuse is also psychological abuse right?!
@MaryWallace-wv2bnThe level of profound comprehension of complicated trauma behaviors by Matthew is truly a gift for us. Thank you for this great episode
@svetlanadobreva3492THIS guest is the most down-to-earth awesome person to me you have had on, and all you have had are amazing! I sat here in tears, married 53 years to an awful abuser and stayed. Why? I now deal with all kinds of questions as to why I stayed and the grief as he passed recently of cancer. I have so much more clarity now. This guest has so much insight and is so good at delivering this insight for me to understand. Ha! I just saw his name posted by Lisa below. Matthew, thank you for hope. I was one who now would have sworn off love and relationships after the last disaster marriage, but you have opened my eyes to see things differently. I am so grateful. And Lisa, I love watching you. Honest, down to earth and so open to even learning yourself from the wonderful guests you have on. You do a very rewarding service to many I am sure.
@ashleybergstrom8934I wonder if he's tired or unwell here? Or maybe jetlagged. Doesn't seem himself
@Emjay_ElleI would rather be alone than to be in a marriage and be lonely. That loneliness in my marriage was awful.
@ashleybergstrom893428:55 I've had men ask and I say no but they still try when asleep. They say, you can have sex with me when I'm asleep and I always say that is creepy WTF
@searabeara5328Ive just realised.... I think after a breakup, I should have noted the reasons why there has been a breakup because of that "amnesia" which happens as time goes on, to prevent the later romanticising phase. A few pointers in my notes app, that I later stumble across accidentally reminding me it's important to question "am I romanticising now, because I forgot the pain?" To remember the pain that our brain blocks out to protect us.
@meganjenkins2384💯% agreed. Relationships and marriage is partnership!
@lolxd9396I managed to divorce my cheating ex spouse, only to face psychological repercussion. This asshole exposed my personal information on the Dark Web. This stupid asshole is so impulsive immature mistake of my life!
@lolxd9396Hi Lisa! It feels so cool being able to comment. I just did 3 1/2 years in prison, back in February of '25 they added podcasts to the tablets, listening to your interviews was one of the very few things I looked forward to every day. Unfortunately, I was convicted of Sxlly assaulting my ex girlfriend I was with for over two years, but I'm innocent, I didnt do it. I understand I'm literally the biggest red flag. I hope I'm still welcome by everyone in Women of Impact, I love this community!
@IreedformybrainGisèle Pelicot didn't stand by her daughter who was also r.. by her father. But the mother - Gisèle Pelicot, didn't believe her. This is what her daughter said - Caroline Darian(Gisèle Pelicot’s daughter): "I don’t speak to my mother. She won’t believe I was a victim of my father."
So please don`t talk about that woman who has no problem trusting men, but don`t trust her own daughter.
I really wanted to watcn
this, but cant handle all tht ads!
I lived with a narcissistic husband for 25 years. You talk about trauma, he wanted me to have sexual relations with other men in front of him and between that harm and finding evidence of him cheating, him never taking any illness of mine serious, the gas lighting, the demeaning attitude toward me, and this list goes on and on. As you said, one of my first thoughts was all the time I wasted with him. I raised two amazing young men, and after leaving him, I worked hard at finding myself again and now having a great career of my own, which he never would of let me have, if I stayed. There is still a mourning that I go through because of never being loved by my husband and having two parents who I never felt loved by. My therapist told me that I married someone who was a combination of both of my parents. She said it was the familiarity. I am healed and feel great but I still mourn the loss of not feeling loved by anyone ever in my life besides my children.
@kariscornell2059I didn't know you were diabetic.
@ThisGreyCharm57:49 Yes so true peace must be protected!
@HeartandSoulAromaOne of the most empathetic and warm interviews on this channel. Matt has great insights, loved it!
@olgasho6687I started to get optimistic about this podcast until you mentioned a lady clearly physically abused for years , thank God she was drugged and unconscious throughout her ordeal ! I’m pleased she’s moved on and found love again. I’m 50 and been around narcissists my entire life and also always been with narcissists in relationships, I’m battling addiction and lost all my children, my entire family are addicted and my father is the primary source! He’s very successful in business to the detriment of his family! Not just me, my mother died last year being the suffering wife, my sister the year before, both from alcoholism! I’m one of 3 girls and quite frankly we’re fucked! All our kids are addicted and none of us can succeed in a relationship! Glad the French woman found peace !
@Nikki-c2uWhat are you talking about?! Can you please stop saying that if somebody doesn't have friends or they're not close with their family, that THEY are narcissistic? Really?, with all the horrible behaviours really narcissistic people are showing right now? I feel like you're just guilting the wrong ones...
@oscarwilde291Remember that many people have highly abusive family. I have no family because of how they treated me. Narcissists can still have lots of friends.
@estherrobinsonsreelMy ex tried to end me I have lost trust for everyone . Every man I’ve been with has turned out to be a psycho.
@estherrobinsonsreelMen are hemotional and testerical … also it’s women who don’t break the no contact… once a woman is down she’s done might take years but once she knows, she knows
@annasmith1427Coverts especially can treats staff in public very kind.
@pferdeklauerinThis man is speaking about my life. I did exactly what he is talking about for a lifetime .I did it hoping people would change . They very very rarely do even in recovery programs . I lived this and seen it my whole life and I understand it. I hate to say it but I do not trust most humans
@Kim-l6d3nI grew up in a very abusive home through absolutely no fault of my own. Unfortunately many of my relationships and friendships with the exception of a few were very abusive. You attract what is familiar and it took me my whole life to see this. Even being in councillingand twelve step programs which helped me alot I met some emotionally healthier people and of course many very damaged people as well. Unfortunately even if you have some decent friendships in your life and I have but life takes us in different directions. I have always been a great friend to people . I know that for sure. I've actually been too good and nice a person so I've been told. People have a tendancy to take advantage of me. I don't have any more energy to give to toxic or reasonable friendships or relationships. I have many thing in my life that I need to give attention to. I have lost alot of my life to giving way way too much of myself to other people good or bad and it has made me really sick. I need myself to be well.
