I am over 60, born and raised in Austin and although I travel I would never desire to live anywhere else. If I may add: his #11 point (for me) is where the term Keep Austin Weird originated. Living in Austin means you will have a loving relationship with HEB and air conditioning. Also, you will occasionally socialize with trad Texas people who wear cowboy hats and boots and have a heavy Texas accent. Some are non-white and it's amusing the first time this happens. Learn a couple words in Spanish (Gracias, Buenos Dias, etc). I love this video and forwarding it to out of state friends.

Austin sucks. It's like a giant garage sale. The roads are trash. The people are rude AF. Everyone is broke out here and complains about it and surfs for free handouts. The heat is miserable. Suck a joke.

I love austin, but on the negative side...Sadly, they allowed south Austin to become a wilderness of apartment complexes. How in the heck are all those people gonna fit on the streets? The answer is that they don't, and the city has done a terrible job keeping up with expansion. I hadn't been back for a while and was shocked by how bad the traffic flow is. The roads on the east side are cracked and broken. Come on, you can't even keep up with the roads? The traffic and road construction south and west of the city isn't any better. You would think planners would have learned from Houston. A professor told us that houston is where they bring city architects to show them what not to do. They probably bring them to austin now. 😢

Austin proper has been absolutely ruined by liberal politics. Let's be real here. I used to be able to walk 6th Street no problem as a youth. Now I wouldn't be caught dead there because I probably would be. The violence has gotten out of control. The homelessness has gotten out of control. It's so bad that the state government has considered taking it over. That is a serious indictment against Austin politics.

I have lived in different parts of the states and home is where you make it. You can make a home anywhere in the world if you set your mind to.

Austin was great, until the Liberal Cali's moved in and (as they ALWAYS do), messed it up. Sad, but we have hope!! My stepdad lived in S. Austin (S.Congress) in the 40's-70S, and we had a house on Lake Travis until 2010 ish, until a music editor from Ireland bought it..... from the little band they call U2!. Sold it because of the former mentioned reasons. The music will always be a great selling point, as is the food, but San Antonio has the better taco's, hands down.

Also, politically, Austin proper, generally, is quite liberal, while just a little ways outside of town tends to be more conservative. Typical of most cities I guess.

Lol, that was funny that you have to smack it with heat in the winter. False, you still have to smack it with AC! You may turn on your central heat for one to two weeks a year and run AC the rest of the year.

It’s not a city. It’s a town. It’s hot as hell. It’s expensive for what it is. If you’re from a major city, you’ll be disappointed… because it’s not as stimulating of a city live in.

Being warm and not following up on plans are common in all places with a lot of transplants. In Seattle, it’s called the Seattle Freeze.

You would think that if Austin was really great people wouldn't be moving there now they would already be there like Dallas, Houston, LA, NY, etc. What has kept Austin so small after all these years? It is not as if Austin just became a metro area in 2020 because it has been a city since the 1800's. There has got to be something that has kept people from moving there all these years. What do you think?

I've lived here since 1984 you are right about the 15 thing list. There have been many changes population has exploded, the traffic is very bad, it's expensive, the streets need so much repair (need to be repaved, potholes) the bike poles have made the streets even narrower which many of our streets are still meant for a small town, but I know many people still love the BBQ, famous Tex Mex tacos, food trucks, the second downtown area The Domain, new soccer stadium, Formula 1, etc.
