My issue with boomers saying that nobody wants to work, is that they were the laziest generation. They worked 30 hours a week and own 3 homes, saying that gen z, where often people are working 2 or 3 jobs, are lazy.

I work retail for a company that doesn't want to hire more people. They intentionally keep the stores under-staffed. I have heard this complant so many times from customers. I always correct them that it's not that people don't want to work, it's more that the company doesn't want to hire. My department is so under staffed and they are claiming it's over staffed. We already can't get our work load done on the staffing we have most of the time. If they get their way, we'll be struggling worse.

In 1894, a reader of the Rooks County Record in Stockton, Kansas wrote into the paper with a complaint that might sound familiar… "With all of the mines of the country shut down by strikers, what will the poor editor do for coal next winter? It is becoming apparent that nobody wants to work these hard times."
By definition anyone who works and does not decide what they are paid for their work is a slave.
Now, this was during the Panic of 1893… the worst economic depression the country had seen since the Civil War. Banks were collapsing, factories were closing, and 180,000 coal miners had just walked off the job across five states in one of the largest strikes in American history.
But the letter writer's takeaway from all of this wasn't that workers were fighting for survival wages during a financial collapse… it was that coal miners, from the 1800s … had gotten lazy.
The fact of the matter is that anyone who EMPLOYS anyone else or PURCHASES anything from anyone is is the person who, by definition, doesn't want to work anymore. The ONLY person who is ever qualified to make the statement that they "want to work" is the homesteader who lives 100% off the land without the help of anyone else - this includes buying ANYTHING from another person. And the more people you employ/the more you buy, the less you "want to work" and, therefore, should shut the fuck up about anyone working.
In 1905 the Edgefield Advertiser complained that "Labor is scarce, high and very unreliable. None want to work for wages". 1916, and a Binghamton Press in New York article bemoans that "nobody wants to work as hard as they used to."…
1922… a reader of the Mulberry News in Kansas writes in to ask, "What is the cause of unemployment and hard times?" The answer from business owners was the same as it was in 1894… nobody wants to work
Seems like business owners want to work least of all, just judging based on those headlines alone. ;) they don't want to work so much that they opened a business so that they can have other people working instead of them. And their biggest fear is going out of business because it means they have to go back to work XD
1937… in the aftermath of the Great Depression… unemployment still above 14 percent… and peach farmers in Pennsylvania can't find anybody willing to pick fruit for poverty wages. Nobody wants to work.
1952, 1969, 1979… nobody wants to work.
The simple fact is, If corporations want new workers? They need to provide more.
I also believe that the government needs to give less.
1999… two brothers closing their shoe repair shop after 53 years tell a reporter, "Nobody wants to work anymore. They all want to work in front of a computer and make lots of money." 2006, 2014… nobody wants to work.And then in 2022, a Forbes survey finds that one in five executives says "no one wants to work anymore"… in the tightest labour market in decades, with unemployment sitting near historic lows.So yeah, if unemployment is too high it’s because nobody wants to work… if unemployment is too low… it’s because nobody wants to work… And if the headlines are to be believed, nobody has wanted to work for 130 straight years now.
And you know what?... they might have a point… not many people DO actually want to work, most people do not dream of labour… they work because they NEED to… so at some point we have to ask whether you are just as lazy as your great great grandfather… or if there is some other reason why people are forgoing this essential component of a basic life….
The press are still the enemy of the people.

Theres no reason that anyone working 40+ hours per week should not have healthcare, and not be able to save a few dollars. The system is broken, and it has been broken since Reagan broke it to benefit the rich. The insurance model of healthcare was broken as soon as it started.

Software engineers had been out-earning many industries for 3 decades and there had been a genuine shortage of them to the point where entire countries like Ukraine, India and Polands IT sector were working mostly for American outsourced projects. Millions of worker outside of the domestic full employment + h1b visa caps.

This is fair. Stopping your work collectively to post demands is also fair. From employer side, firing those that stopped working is also fair. Finding another person to do the work for same conditions if the current worker doesn’t want to work is fair.
You don’t want to work for the terms proposed - nobody forces you, go find other job.

today I would say the problem is not too little pay, but to high pay for useless jobs like managers/ middlemen between the working people and the bosses.
also too high taxes, people can‘t keep much of what they earned. In germany 12€ per hour should be more then enough for simple jobs. The higher the pay gets the higher the cost of living for everyone gets. These kind of jobs should be for people who go study, teenagers who want to earn some extra pocketmoney, bridging unemployment phases, elderly who want to earn some extra for their pention, or unskilled migrants etc (who ofcourse can still educate themselfs and get up the ladder). Thise jobs are supposed to be a starting point. In germany we have a saying: vom Tellerwäscher zum Millionär - from a dishwasher to a millionair.
Conflating jobs and work is how we got into this disaster. Everyone loves work. Everyone hates jobs.
@lamMeTVIf they don't pay you well enough don't work for them. They are just transferring the extra value you create to themselves. 16 tons a day earns how much and how much do you get for it and how much do they keep. Miners knew.

Workers trade their time and labour for money but they have limits on what conditions, work-load and the type of work they will tolerate for the pay offered and how desperate they are
If you can't find workers then offer more pay, if you can't afford that then your business isn't competitive in the free market, either increase efficiency or reduce profit extraction
I’ll be honest: blaming “right-to-work” laws for union decline seems a bit disingenuous. All they do is say that if someone wants nothing to do with a union, then they can have that option. They don’t have to subsidize a union as a condition of employment.
If those laws really cause a decline in union membership, then maybe there’s something wrong with the unions.
Funny how "the good old days of post WW2" had 30% of workers in Unions and the highest top income tax rates.
Globalism/Elitism (used to be called NeoLiberalism in the economic sense) has fought hard for 60 years to destroy the middle class and promote wealth distribution back up to the 1%.
