Years ago when I was a teen I had a pet corn snake, I was sitting down on the floor I was eating Reese's pieces and she ate a piece, I got scared she ate it so fast, a couple days later she had a chin/neck roll. I freaked out, she was okay though.

I've had my corn Luna for almost a year now. I love how active she is, lots of spots to explore, climb and even burrow. She's very friendly and great at handling even if she's got a great food drive and will follow you for food you can still pluck her up. I love her so much.

My corn snake’s name is Mazola and I’ve had him for about 5 years now. He’s a sweet, calm boy. My tip for first time snake owners is to buy locks for your enclosures. Corns are escape artists. They love to explore and they’re quite strong, so they can lift up a screen lid if it isn’t secure. My boy has gotten lost twice now. The first time I couldn’t find him for a week. The second time he was only gone for a few hours.

How do you provide overhead light without it overheating? Doesn't providing belly heat and overhead lighting make it too hot? I'm a bit lost on how to strike that balance

My current corn is Professor Ned, I've had corns for over 30 years, best advice I can give is never put more than one corn in the same viv, it's not a problem, till it is, then you lose both. For anyone reading this that has more than one in the same viv, if you see them curl up together, it's not a good sign, they are not friends, in reality the snakes are fighting.

@RabbiKolakowskiMy corn snake is an adult. Don’t know what gender it is. Adopted a year ago. A little less than. But, one of the things I have noticed is that he/she, goes into the tunnels, underground at least two weeks. Emerges a couple times to get that heat. Then sheds.

@some_one662Well I don't think I'll have to worry about the "motherhood era" with my cornsnake Slinky, because he's a male. I've only had him for a week so I've just been leaving him alone for the most part aside from feeding him on Mondays as checking in on him every now and then.

@TwigwhispersHi hope you are ok I have a female cornsnake called liZZZ liZZZ is about 9 months I have a starter verium kit liZZZ hasn't got any other head heating I asked about getting a lamp I showed some photos of the verium and the pet shop said it would be to complicated to put a lamp I'm looking for a bigger enclosure has the pet shop can do all the fiddly bits I'm using natural cypress mulch also you asked about how do you make it friendly I was told by the AI God to use a old sock or a old t-shirt the AI God also has a very rare treat you can feed it a qualis egg am I doing ok thanks stash and liZZZ
@stashkidd8566You have to leave them alone. The unique thing is that most people want to interact with their animals. Day in and day out. Snake owners find peace in an animal, that you don’t have to interact with.

@AudreyGoldbeck-k2cI just recently got a beautiful cornsnake called Unagi from a friend of mine. She is super unhandelable like every time I even open the box she is living in she tries to bite me so changing her water is really difficult some of it is because of the set up my friend had her living in a quite small plastic box sadly. I am soon getting her upgraded to a bigger enclosure just I had to take her unexpectedly because my friend was spontaneously moving to another country. So I didn’t have a setup ready to go yet. Hopefully se calms down a bit after I change the setup. Hoping to go even bigger withe the enclosure at some point but I don’t have space for another large terrarium. I might take Unagi to my parents house in the summer when the weather allows because right now it’s too cold to move her there tho I need to see if mom is willing to take care of a snake for me.

Most of your points are really good here, the only part I disagree with is bigger is always better small enclosures for hatchlings are a good idea for a number of reasons, but for adults, I agree big is good

@JeremyAndersonBoiseI got my corn snake 2 months ago, I lost it for 3 weeks it came back super big! But then he hasn’t eaten since… no matter what I feed him he won’t eat. What can I do? The enclosure is huge, the bottom is moist, he has toys . Idk what I should do

@thecodmachine5890I’m a first time snake owner and just got a young corn snake 5 days ago and today will be the first day I feed her! (Pet store said they were feeding her once a week with a fuzzy, at the time I already prepared with a 3 pack of small pinky mice so I was told giving her 2 pinkies would be about the same for her first feed) but i’m going to get fuzzies next time.
Since everything is so new to her, I know it’ll take some time before I see what behaviors are because of the new environment and me and what is her personality, but right now shes great with handling and seems very curious while still being shy haha

I'll put him on my bed and he'll go over to my shelf and wedge himself into whatever tight space he can find and take a nap 😭 And hes so social too, he loves when I hold him. When I got him from a pet expo I went over by him and he tried to get out to me, I picked him up and we've been inseparable ever since. I love my little Bruce

I am curious, at the mention of albino morphs having worse vision and how this may contribute to a defensive nature in them, is there a good/better way to communicate with the snake? Like sometimes when I am approaching her to pet her I like to tap on her tank or tap my finger on the bottom of her enclosure so she can get the idea that there is movement and I intend to interact with her. I'd be curious to learn more ways I can communicate better with her since she may have worse vision than other morphs
